Frozen waters and solid snow cover were common on deer hunting openers (Nov. 15) in the 60’s & 70’s in MI. We sometimes got stuck getting out to the hunting camp. All this breathless weather hullabaloo is just comical.

I live in northwest Indiana, half way between Chicago and Indianapolis. This is our 2nd snow of the season, we got about 2 inches 3 weeks ago. So far we have 3 inches on the ground and it is 25 degrees at 5pm CST. Overnight low is to be around 12 degrees. South Bend, IN, about 80 miles N-E of me is in the Lake Michigan snow belt and forecast to get 8-12 inches. No panic here, just watching it snow.

This reminds me of the Veterans Day snow when I was in Washington, DC, in Nov, 1987. I lived near Andrews AFB and we got 16 inches that day. The Federal gov’t was closed for a couple of days in order to clear the roads and metro. The following July, Andrews AFB hospital had a baby boom.

OK is relatively decent for winter weather, no? Moreso the parts that are OKC and south of OKC? I mean, compared to the upper midwest, for example.

Was listening to a Burlington,Vermont station a couple of hours ago and they were predicting 8 inches of snow tonight and several more inches tomorrow.

Denver snowed a little today, but not bad. But already this is completely different from the last few winters, which were unusually mild. I think all of our ski areas are open now. Maybe we can scare away some Californians.

Might be an old timer or two left who can tell you tales of 1940 Armistice Day Blizzard, took out a lot of hunters,

Scaring away some Californians would be really nice!

We get snow, ice, but usually gone after a few days. I like cold for a few days, but not much longer

This was the coolest summer in the 20 years I lived here. We had only about 3 100 degree days.

That global warming better end before they all freeze to death.

Grand Solar Minimum.

Was watching the transit of Mercury—on YouTube, too cloudy here to see the sun. The sun was spotless (except for tiny Mercury). Can say I can remember seeing it without at least some sunspots.

Sounds good. The thrill of freezing much of the year has a tendency to wear off!
:D
Of course, you got the twisters - but anybody who lives in wide swath of tornado alley states has that baked into the mix.

Looks like by Wednesday - west of the Mississippi will be above freezing, while east of the river many places are gonna struggle to make it to freezing.

We’re supposed to get the year’s first snow tonight in eastern TN. A few hours of “wintry mix” (I hate wintry mix), and some snow, with temps in the high 20s and low 30s. Not ideal for road conditions.

My millennial friend (pastor) told me today that global warming causes both the cold and warm extremes. (As we will be dealing with a cold shocker tonight in the upper midwest) I think she has been brainwashed. Too bad.
