Winterlike temperatures that pushed into the northern Plains through the middle of this week will continue charging south and east into the weekend.

The first push of cold air arrived in the northern Plains on Wednesday into Wednesday night. Temperatures dropped into the single digits from Montana to the Dakotas and into northern Iowa throughout Wednesday night.

Cold continued to infiltrate the the country, spreading through the middle Mississippi River Valley and the Midwest.

Arctic blast satellite image The NOAA-20 satellite's VIIRS instrument captured this image of a major cold front sweeping across the continental U.S. on November 8, 2019. (NOAA) The lowest temperatures so far this season expected for the Northeast and many in the Southeast on Saturday morning, where daily record low temperatures could be challenged for cities from Boston to Nashville.

"The low temperature could plunge to 25 F in Philadelphia on Saturday morning. It hasn't been this cold so early in the season there since 1976," Jesse Ferrell, AccuWeather meteorologist and social media manager, said.

A stiff northwesterly wind will keep AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures as much as 15 degrees F lower than the actual temperature reading across much of the region.

Normal high temperatures for the beginning of November range from the lower 40s F in northern Maine to the lower 60s F in the mid-Atlantic.

The latter half of the 1970s was weird, at least in the East.

There were a number of Bermuda Highs that made life miserable, especially for MLB pitchers that couldn’t keep up the pace in 90F+ temps in NYC and Boston.

Then there was the Blizzard of 1978 that hit the Northeast.

And sustained cold that froze pipes, set or met records for number of days total and continuous, for being at or below freezing, at or below 0F, etc.

Oh, and solar activity was blamed for bringing down Skylab earlier than predicted due to drag from an expanded atmosphere.

Not good because State College, PA is a hotbed of extreme whacko climate activism.

Joe Bastardi?

One is meteorologist and the other climatologist.

If we get bad winters like the late 70’s again a lot of people are going to be in rough shape. The heating equipment back 40 years ago was a lot more reliable than all this electronic crap they put out today. Lot’s of luck getting parts to heat your house.

How can this be? Astronomers said the earth was flat a long time ago! If the Chinese tipped the earth, wouldn't we all slide off! Well, the Chinese have been bragging about being the "middle kingdom" for some time, so maybe their weight is just keeping us from sliding off the edge... 😀

Someone should put a tracker on algore as he is great for having climate warming conferences in the middle of record cold and snow days.

“scientists” are desperately toiling away as we contemplate these record cold temps trying to get their global warming models to predict that things will get colder ...

Might be a good time to replace the igniter and/or fuel nozzle...

Batteries for the damn thermostats, too.

We looked at property in northern Idaho several times over the past 10 years...As we got a bit older decided it was just too darn cold in winter. And why we chose a much lower latitude.☺

We both enjoy the winter sports even in our late 60s...but it IS nice having a CA home to retreat to when it gets to be too much around March.

Globull warmin izza reullzz. Oh noes!

So, are sea levels falling as we speak with all the cold weather? Have the polar bears gotten back on the ice floes?

You have to be as dumb as a Hollywood actress to believe in globull warming.

I’ve done the second home thing as we had cabin at 7K altitude in S. CA. But it became a headache as every time we visited the cabin as it was all about working on the cabin. Found out homes don’t like being unoccupied and when you leave a home empty for long periods of time, it starts deteriorating and seems to require a whole lot of maintenance and $$ I really didn’t have. It was fun for about 4 years then it became a pain.

Yeah, dad lives in Reno. Was just there a few weeks ago. Went to Scheels for mags, ammo, etc. Stayed at the Peppermill. Took kids, grandkids. Dad is 86 and was happy to see us all.
