Too bad that the Yankees versus the Astros isn’t the World Series. Has nothing to do with a desire for the Astros to go back to the National League but instead a desire have the two best teams in baseball square off in the series.

This Yankee lineup looks dominant on paper, but it’s filled with hitters who are prone to getting shut down by good pitchers. If the Astros don’t give up a bunch of home runs we may even see a couple of shutouts in a series where the Yankees hit .090 with runners in scoring position.

You're thinking of past Yankees teams. Hitters such as A-Rod, Texiera, Swisher and Granderson were terrible against good pitching. This years players have a much better approach at the plate, and they've done relatively well against good pitching.

For example, Verlander's and Cole's ERA against the Yankees this year is a little over 4.00.

I have to think that a seven game series is much more likely to expose the Nats pitching problems. Hopefully this series got their hitting tuned up for spotlight play off baseball, it would make a huge difference with that boat anchor bullpen.

The Yankees’ rotation is closer to Houston’s than people think. They have an explosive lineup that hit over 300 homeruns and had two regulars hit significantly over .300. And that bullpen isn’t just the best in baseball, it may be the best ever.

They remind me of past teams because they’re a lot like them. They had 300+ home runs this year, and yet for the second year in a row only one player reached the 100-RBI mark.

They score an inordinate amount of their runs on the long ball, and yet they don’t score a LOT of runs on the long ball because they don’t hit them with a lot of runners on base.

I honestly got tired of reading reports of a Yankee player having a dominant week with 6 home runs ... and all of 8 RBIs.

Just like we’ve seen in recent years, we have a Yankee lineup that isn’t built to score runs in tight games with timely hitting. They’re built for batting practice.

You are thinking right, but anything can happen. It is the Astros year to win, but you never know.

Verlander got to sit down early the last game, so nothings a gimme.

I lost interest in the American League when they went to the dh.

Even though I am an Astros fan here in the Houston area, I have never cared for the DH either. When the Astros were in the NL, I only saw AL teams during the World Series. Once the Astros moved to the AL, I lost all interest in NL teams. I also don't like interleague play during the regular season. The only time I need to see the NL is in the World Series or All-Star game.

Nats up 2-0 Yanks up 1-0....perhaps a NY-DC world serious.

Yankees played an amazing game last night in Houston.

Now they need to keep playing up to that standard.

Verlander didn’t exactly shine last time. I suppose one could blame Kate Upton after all I learned in Rocky that women weaken legs. :)

Early days yet. In a seven game series a 2 - 0 deficit is often overcome.

But... the Nats winning both games in St Louis is a big leg up. And getting a pitching gem from Sanchez...
