Here’s one. My husband takes them, all ok. I took them for about 3 days; got a floater in my eye. I researched and found that that is a side effect, so I quit. Doc said, “Oh the statins have really helped.” I said, “I am not taking them. I just quit eating so much butter on my bread.” haha

BUT — down the road, when we went to get long-term insurance, my husband could NOT get it bc he took statins. I could, bc I do not take them.

What drugs has he or she mentioned specifically?

I have been taking Atorvastatin for a few years for cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes.

The diet and exercise route was not gonna happen, well, not w/o a boot to the butt anyway. Fortunately my docs don’t wear boots.

I am not asking for professional medical advice, but personal opinions about the benefits or obstacles about statins.

Watch for "flu like symptoms".

Pretty much any statin will do me in.

One person’s experience, YMMV.

I am someone with Type I diabetes since 1980, thus now prone to hypertension and its consequences. I take two anti-hypertensives, and was on generic Lipitor for awhile,

In 2016, even though I had been on generic Lipitor a few years, I stopped taking it based on things I had read, which my doctor then strongly advised against.

In October 2017 I woke up one morning with bad double vision, which didn’t get better, I went to the ER. I got an MRI and other tests, and the doctors’ best guess was that I had had a very mild stroke. I started taking statins again. And so far so good,

If I were you I would take them.

I do not take statins
My husband had a reaction to statins: “ inflammation of the muscles”
His doctor said to never take a statin drug again.
So...
Instead hubby and I take policosinol to naturally reduce cholesterol levels.

I'd say ABSOLUTELY NOT. Take a look at the link below. There are many others to find. The truth is just beginning to emerge on statins

Do statins really work? Who benefits? Who has the power to cover up the side effects?

Of particular interest to me is the emerging studies on the connection between ALS and statins. My neighbor just died of ALS and his wife told me he was on statins for a "very long time". Just one data point I know.

STAY AWAY!

Follow your doctor’s advice for a while and see how it goes. That’s what you pay him for

Nattokinase is a very good option with or without statins.

Japanese have very low heart attack issues even with slightly less cholestorol but higher blood pressure. Natto is thought to be one reason why and there are several studies to prove it.

I take 40 mg of Lipitor nightly. I have been doing this for at least 20 years. I have no side effects. I have a family history of deaths do to heart problems and I have had high cholesterol in the past. My cardiologist put me on this because of my family history and my cholesterol has remained good. I’m 76 and my father died of a heart attack at 68, my brother at 68 and my mother at 60. I’m the only one left of my nuclear family. My mom’s side of the family has lost seven of 9 members all due to heart attacks and heart issues. The remaining two family members are in their early 80ties and have suffered heart attacks. A lot depends on your heath and your family’s.
Listen to your physician and act accordingly. God Bless

I put it off as long as I could. Family history finally won over and I am taking them. No problems other than remembering to take them every night.

I can’t take them. Legs hurt for six months after taking a statin for one month. This was my second attempt to take a statin.

My Dr. stated that under guidelines, I should take a statin. He said that lifestyle changes were also and option. I changed my diet.

In 30 days, I had all my numbers where they should be and my HDL-the good kind (which had been low for decades) was back to normal.

Major changes: No Soda, No sugar - low carb fruits and veggies. More fat: Added grass fed butter, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, lots of nuts. Decent Protein intake including more eggs. Almost zero grains.

Supplement: Multi Vitamin, Calcium & Vitamin D3, and K2. I had already read a lot about statins-not a good thing for many people. YMMV

A big NO to statins.

Garlic, ginger, grapefruit, vinegar and honey, lots of choices. Wine even. No fake fats, cut back on the carbs, all so much better for you.
