Of course he let her win. He didn’t want to be accused of beating his wife.

The difference between sexes in physical capability when there is real competition is profound.

Not always.

Typically ~10% male time advantage in elite marathoners.
When you get to longer ultras, women have physiological advantages.
Many theories, the leading theory is, women have a higher pain tolerance.

And one simple fact, women are smaller.

Was it the Frank Shorter rule?
ONE KILOGRAM PER INCH!

And women are <10% of ultra participants.

It is thought if female participation increases substantially, the advantage will show at shorter distances; marathon?

I post this graphic, when it comes to speed and strength, women simply cannot compete at all at higher levels (top of the pyramid)...as you may guess from the context, it was done from a perspective of females in combat roles in the military.

In the shorter distance type of thing, a 100 Meter Dash, the world record is (Usain Bolt male) at 9.58 sec. and the women's set by Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988 is 10.49 sec.

That is nearly a full second slower from a record set 30 years ago from a sport were first and last place finishers in a field often are separated by milliseconds.

This is not a knock on women. I have known and worked with tough women. It is just that the natural steroid men produce that women lack imparts an advantage in physical ability with men, and it is spread more widely across the male population than enhanced physical ability is spread across the female population.

To get to the top, women have to train longer, harder, and more consistently, and when they stop, they fall off faster than men do.

My point was that women tend to do better than men at ultra-length endurance events.
And very few female participants.

The Chinese ultra runners are just now starting.

Jasmin Paris sets new course record for 268-mile Spine race, expressing milk for her daughter along the way

She crossed the line in 83 hours, 12 minutes and 23 seconds - more than 12 hours faster than the previous record holder, Eoin Keith (95:17).

Sarah Thomas (born 1981 or 1982) is an American marathon swimmer.

On August 10, 2017 she swam 104.6 miles (168.3 km) in Lake Champlain, gaining world records for the first current-neutral swim of over 100 miles

Longest swim by male F Mouala 65.9 miles

Abstract. Male skeletal muscles are generally faster and have higher maximum power output than female muscles. Conversely, during repeated contractions, female muscles are generally more fatigue resistant and recover faster.

Surprising to me that Bolt is ONLY a half-second faster than FJ in the 100m.

I thought Bolt was closer to a full second faster 9.58 to 10.49 (If her time was 10.58 that would be a full second?)

Eh...what’s a half second between FRiends?

I admit, when I saw that time still stands from 30 years ago, my first thought was that she was taking PED at the time (like all those East Germans) but...my memory of her was that she was a decent type, so I think not.

Never actually caught.

After her death in 1998, Prince Alexandre de Merode, the Chairman of the International Olympic Committee’s medical commission, claimed that Joyner was singled out for extra, rigorous drug testing during the 1988 Olympic Games because of rumors of steroid use. De Merode told The New York Times that Manfred Donike, who was at that time considered to be the foremost expert on drugs and sports, failed to discover any banned substances during that testing. wiki

Half a second/ full second, I cannot even think that fast!

Years ago Chicago’s Musem of Science and Industry had a FLO_JO display.

Starting blocks and a clear lane next to a series of large display monitors that showed Fl-Jo in motion.
As you leave the blocks you trip a sensor and the display starts, tried it many times and watched many others.
I’d get about 30 feet and she was at the end!!!

Interesting...I would have done even worse...I have never been fast. Strong, but not fast.
