Have you checked the “Pow-wow Chow Cookbook?”

I understand it has some treasured Cherokee crab recipes.

REAL crabmeat

Real crabmeat is wonderful (I live in the Seattle area); but, be aware that crabmeat needs to be kept chilled. It goes bad very quickly if not kept chilled.

“...a new Lidl store opened near us...”

Is that in the same vein as an ALDI? Our ALDI stores in Wisconsin ROCK and just keep getting better and better! :)

I fed my ‘tribe’ of three adults and three teen boys and stayed within my grocery budget for many a year thanks to them.

The boys knew to NEVER touch ‘Mom’s ALDI Quarter’ that she kept in the car ashtray, LOL! (You need one to rent a shopping cart.)

I don’t know a lot about keto but I do like protein and feel better consuming that as opposed to carbs. I made a beef and noodle dish with some garden veggies recently and I used rice noodles from the Asian store. I’m assuming they are lower carb that semolina pasta and I like that they really added no flavor at all to the dish that I could detect.

Krab with a K is sorbitol soaked starch. Sorbitol might make your guests ill.

Those dup flutes, oh my! When I visit my mother in NC & I stock up at this store called Hoppy’s. They have overstock from other stores. There are cheese straws(another brand) & they look exactly like yours. I get several boxes & ALWAYS regret not getting more. They are absolutely addictive.

Those crab cakes.....mmmmmmm.

Happy before Labor Day!

I...don’t think I’m interested in that cookbook.

(However, my high-school boyfriend was a genuine Cherokee - a very patriotic and all-American one. I also knew a very dear man much later, who was also of Cherokee descent. (The latter was an ACLU lawyer who quit because he was so mad about Roe v. Wade and the part that the ACLU had played in its culmination.)

Troll somebody else. This is a Cooking Thread, and we try to leave overt politics and controversy out of it. :-)

We will never get an Aldi, but they are making the Kroger much bigger. I love Aldi. I love your quarter hideout!

Good luck finding the recipe. Walmart used to sell the best Krab salad with a K. I’ve looked for years and never found the right one. Krab with a K has a lot of carbs.

Aldi’s ‘was’ my primary grocery store but in the last few months, their prices have increased substantially (30-50%) on many products. Now, the Walmart grocery is actually cheaper on some items.

Well, even though I’m near the Chesapeake, I’m not near enough to have fresh crab often. We buy pasteurized crabmeat - you find it in the refrigerated seafood section of the grocery; it has a shelf-life of about 18 months if you keep it unopened and refrigerated. Once opened, it should be consumed within two days.

I know it’s not the same as fresh - and especially what you probably get there - but it’s acceptable dope for us addicts.

Aldi is more like a small-scale Costco - a sort of ‘warehouse’. Lidl is different - it’s like a neighborhood grocery, and not so big that it’s difficult to navigate for us older folks. In our experience, you can also find the same things routinely at Lidl. Our experience with Aldi is like Costco - sometimes they have something, sometimes they don’t.

We like Aldi, especially at Christmas time - they have lots of nice European holiday treats - and we got one of our best Thanksgiving turkeys there, for a very good price. But in our area, the store is so crowded on weekends and parking is horrible. The nearby Lidl is very convenient, and very friendly, and the stock is organized like a regular small grocery.

They have a lot of nice recipes. Check out the noodle-less lasagna.

That’s why I’m trying to stay away from it. Some people call it the ‘hot dog of seafood’.

(However, there are decent hot dogs out there; I haven’t found ‘Krab’ that’s acceptable, healthwise or tastewise.)
