I should head to Great Kills beach.
Though a dead boy detector would yield more results.

Pity they didn’t call in someone to properly excavate the site.

What a time of upheaval William’s reign must have been. He overthrew a government and entire ruling class, and turned society upside down - removing the Anglo-Saxon ruling class, replacing all the clergy, turning land over to loyal Norman (foreign and French-speaking) nobility, and then trying to find and strip as much wealth as possible to fight rebellions, fund his new kingdom, and its various wars.
If you had money, the only thing you could do would be to bury it.

I wonder if William attempted to confiscate the coinage of the previous rulers and remade them with his own image.

Under the Treasure Trove Act of 1996, the finder and the landowner get to split the money.

Here’s hoping it was a 10,000 coin hoard and they were giving the devil his due so as to avoid rousing suspicion.

A metal-detecting couple have found one of the biggest treasure hoards in British history which is believed to be worth around £5million.
It just warms the cockles of my heart that the writer spelled ‘hoard’ correctly - unlike hordes of others who don’t know the difference.

I wonder what the tax rate is on treasure troves.
