I like Popeyes very much. I tell myself...no more...but I end up...going back....I try and get least battered chicken. Red beans and rice...goood. Sweet Heat dipping sauce...I am addicted. I like tueir biscuits...and sweet teas....

Fried chicken from the Publix deli is hard to beat. Tastes great, and a 3 piece meal with sides is $8 or $9, and there’s enough food we make 3 meals out of it.

Of course, if you live where there’s no Publix, you’re out of luck!

Nearest KFC isn’t very nearby, never go there. For fried chicken it’s either Publix or Chick-fil-a.

I’m out of luck. I tried Kroger fried chicken a couple of times - first time was great, second, not so much.

I have yet to try Chick-fil-a. There are two stores in my area, but I seldom am around either. I keep telling myself next time I go to Walmart, I’m going to try Chick. Just haven’t had any reason to go to Walmart.

Meanwhile, there’s a KFC less than a mile away. Also a Popeye’s. I think I may have tried Popeye’s a long time ago, soon after it opened. It didn’t leave me with fond memories.

I’ve got half a dozen Chick-fil-a’s in a 5 mile radius. And still, they’re all always busy. But they all get you your food fast. If the line looks too long, it really isn’t, CFA makes it happen.

Holy cow. That’s a lot. I see you’re in GA. I’m guessing you’re in the greater Atlanta metro area

Me too...the closest Chick-fil-a has a fabulous system during peak times. There are 2 order takers using Ipads, going from car to car. Then there is a cashier set up outside that takes cash or credit cards.

I have seen over 20 cars in line, but it has never taken over 5 minutes to get my order.

I’d bet money there were Georgia Tech industrial engineers involved in making their system.

As Johnny Carson once joked, they changed to the initials not because they were trying to get away from referring to their product as fried, but because they were getting away from referring to it as chicken.

It got too healthy. The colonel's body looks like a stick figure now.

I used to know a lot of Australian Merchant Mariners who were Steward’s, and I would get invited over to their ships for receptions and get-togethers and yes there was beer, and yes there was food and yes there were other things that Australians love to do when they’re in Port.

One thing I will say is that their Buffets or their hors d’oeuvres, finger food were rather healthy compared to anything I ever saw on at American reception offerings. While Americans might have been eating fried cheese sticks or little smokies the Australians were eating asparagus tips chilled with Dijon mustard or celery, heavy on the vegetables with perhaps cheesy and eggs, and curry dishes.

These weren’t the elite Australians that you may think, they were blue collar mariners and cargo handlers, tankermen, able body seamen, and engineers.

The senior officers on board also had absolutely no qualms hanging out the the crew. I never saw that on U.S. flagged vessels.

“You get some KFC goodness without the breading and the deep fryer.“

Heresy.

I actually got to shake the good Colonel’s hand when I was a boy. Grand dad took me to the original location and he happened to be there. It was a memorable trip.

Yep. Good thing Taco Bell didn’t do that.

As for nostalgia, I think boomers are big into nostalgia. There’s a lot we miss — less gadget/video ‘busy-ness’, simpler pleasures, nicer people, known rules.

Heresy ter sure. I’m awaiting local butcher’s next delivery of pigs, so I can get more leaf fat to make more lard. I get it for free. Makes the best fried chicken (fry hotter, higher smoke point).

I call them Kentucky Fried Chick. Sometimes I even make Lolita jokes because the Colonel likes them young.
