Vladimir Putin’s Russia is rehabilitating Stalin
The Guardian ^ | 10 July 2019 | Irina Sherbakova

Posted on 07/13/2019 10:25:25 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Great expectations characterised 1989...The Gorbachev era brought about a frenzy of change, and people witnessed incredible events on a weekly basis: they snatched up newspapers, hung on every word broadcast on TV, and with every passing day they felt more alive and free.

By the mid-1990s, nostalgia for the Soviet period started to creep in. The greyness of the Brezhnev era, with its endless queues and empty shops, started to be recalled as a peaceful, prosperous time. And gradually something that had seemed impossible during perestroika, became real: Stalin’s shadow loomed large again.

Vladimir Putin’s rise to power came accompanied by a new version of patriotism relying on “heroic” and “bright” aspects of the Soviet past. An image of Stalin as a strong leader who had ensured victory in the second world war and led a Soviet superpower re-emerged. Television propaganda again worked hard to create that image. The millions who perished in waves of political repression were pushed to the margins of collective consciousness.

Today, the 1989 liberation of eastern Europe, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the cold war are understood by many Russians in terms of defeat, disaster even. No wonder, given that Putin has called the fall of the Soviet Union “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe” of the 20th century. Today Stalin’s face watches you ubiquitously from billboards, subway train walls, and bookstore windows. Dozens of monuments to him have sprouted around Russia.

It’s not that Russians have forgotten about the direct link between Stalin’s name and the political repression that affected almost every family. Rather, they don’t want to reflect on the terror, on who perpetrated it or what the rationale behind it was. They aren’t ready to acknowledge that this was the central pillar of the entire system.

I worship no one but God so put a sock in that one

As far as the image of Putin as a new Stalin you need to do some research and observe what is happening there. The old Russia is dead and he is not trying to take the same path despite your words

I look at what a person does, not what others say about them and it has stood me in good stead for well over 63 years on the planet

And last, My family has been Republican since it’s formation and no one has drifted into anther party ever, staunch Conservatives all

So take your pedantic little comments elsewhere son, you reveal your own proclivities by your own hand

“Democrats have been doing that for years.”

While I’m not too hot on Stalin, I do find it interesting that ONLY NOW, with Putin their declared enemy, does our Left start to have a problem with Stalin.

Not much diff...except for those tens of millions of people Stalin had murdered. Putin is bad, but much more mainstream and less genocidal than Stalin. And yes, there actually is more freedom and wealth creation in current Russia than in Stalin’s Soviet Union. Putin clearly admires how much power Stalin had, but he has a long way to go (fortunately) to really be like Stalin.

But just think how Dems would be drooling over his Stalin-love, if only they weren’t using Putin as their excuse for losing in 2016. Look how many leftists already parade around with the hammer and sickle flag and pretend that Marxism is a great, intellectual movement.

“Hey you can’t blame us. Putin pays us to post here regularly, as well as on Facebook and other social media sites.”

I’m wondering. I’m also on the Russian payroll - do they give you the full month of August off with pay - as they do back in Mother Russia? For me, they claim that Americans only are only entitled to 2 weeks paid leave a year - since that’s that most American companies do.

Pretty sucky deal if you ask me. Unless Putin UPS HIS GAME a bit here, he may just find me joining the Leftists and the Media in attacking him.

“Does Stalin need rehabilitating among the Democrats? Did he ever stop being a hero to the Left?”

Not so much a hero, since Stalin’s first victims were socialists, social democrats, & Trotskyists, but he serves as a convenient excuse.

The now undeniable horrors of Stalin’s USSR enables the Left to argue that “true socialism hasn’t been tried yet!” or, “The wrong people were in charge!” or, “It (USSR) wasn’t what we wanted!”

But does the Left go green with envy at Stalin’s power to make his opponents disappear by the tens of thousands?

You darn skippy they do!

If Putin were really looking to reestablish communism, The Guardian would be cheering. But he’s not.

The reality is that many Russians are frustrated with the status quo and are increasingly becoming more and more cynical when it comes to politics and its ability to make change. The thought of a strong man like Stalin that industrialized Russia, won the war, blah, blah, blah, is going to appeal to some of those people that simply want stuff to get done. Just human nature.

I say this while condemning everything that Stalin stood for and disagreeing with some of Putin’s methods of staying in power.

Putin wants the Soviet Union without the Communism.

People in Russia don’t even think of Stalin as a Communist, more as a historical figure in the mold of “Ivan the Terrible”.

Did Communism Fake Its Own Death in 1991?
American Thinker ^ | January 16, 2010 | Jason McNew

In a [] 1984 book [New Lies for Old], ex-KGB Major Anatoliy Golitsyn predicted the liberalization of the Soviet Bloc and claimed that it would be a strategic deception. ..."

"Golitsyn's argument was that beginning in about 1960, the Soviet Union embarked on a strategy of massive long-range strategic deception which would span several decades and result in the destruction of Western capitalism and the erection of a communist world government."

"Golitsyn published his second book, The Perestroika Deception, after the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991. This book contained further analysis of the liberalization, in addition to previously classified memoranda submitted by Golitsyn to the CIA. The two books must be read together to get a complete picture of Golitsyn's thesis."

Yes, and if you look into the doings in Ukraine and Crimea there is a lot of common ideas that they are cousins not a subdued country, in effect states with sovereign governments that does not require submission.

Last, England and other European powers have been trying to deny Russia a warm water port for centuries, it is by itself one of the largest countries in the world with immense natural resources. Look at one of our NATO partners, Germany, currently under Hitlers Niece that depends on Russian Natural Gas to keep their homes warm and fuel the shortfall in the “natural Energy” scam. Their electric prices make California look cheap and they are rising. She allows Migrants in foretelling her true ambitions to be a favored child in the Euro “Union” and finish what her Uncle started which is a German dominated Economy. But because they are not breeding enough new Germans they are importing labor, water down the drain but she only cares about herself and now.

In closing the Russian people understand and respect a strong leader as we do Trump. He is promoting the resurgence of the spiritual side of His country and much more, this is NOT nor will ever be again the USSR.

And last and very important to me, he is a big promoter of the Spiritual resurgence of His people, a faith in God and not in State which is what we are fighting here

Lol! Possibly.

They (the ChiComs) have never had a closer military and economic alliance with the Russians than they do now.

In fact, the two have been staging massive joint war games since 2005, claiming it’s about combating terrorism. Meanwhile, the type and scale of the exercises clearly indicate they’re preparing for war with us and our various allies.

I have lots on this on my FR Home page.

See “On the Russia-ChiCom Collusion/Alliance front...” in the newly added (clickable) table of contents.
