I understand your spirit.
Working as an industry analyst in the tech industry, I will say that Washington DC has a fair number of solid tech companies who work outside of government.
There’s a lot of brainpower in the city. That’s probably the key reason Amazon decided to move there — as well as all the government contracts they expect to win as industry and government moves to more cloud computing.
