I said nothing of the sort. Are you having a mental breakdown? How can I hijack my own thread, when my thoughts on the subject (which are not as you say they are) were an aside?
Perhaps you should not try to tell someone who lived in Ireland and has a lot of family still living there (me) what to think on the subject?
Why are you on FR, to boot? Your political thoughts seem at odds with the site in general.
You don’t know that at all. Unless you really are saying that the EU was creating the trade barriers? If the EU did not exist, Ireland would have been free to forge bilateral agreements with those states that happened to have been already in the EU (then EEC) instead of being excluded, and they would never have had to pay into a bloc that simply does not need to exist.
1. Actually I can - the EU tore down trade barriers - which is why communists like Corbyn hate it for its capitalism.
1.a. Pre-EU the different tariffs, etc. were crippling to small countries like Ireland. Ireland was heavily dependent on exports to and imports from the UK.
1.b. bilateral trade agreements favor the more powerful party. Multilateral agreements make it a level playing field
2. If Ireland forged a bilateral agreement with a more powerful state (every single one of the EEC states with the exception of Portugal), it would be at the receiving end and have to listen to their dictates, just as it was when it was trading with the UK.
3. As to paying into the bloc for membership - what they get out of it in economy and economic heft more than compensates for it. Ireland can get the best terms from China, because it negotiates with China as part of a bloc
Repeating lies do not make them true.
Do you have anything to say about the subject of the thread?
I ask you for why you chnged the topic by saying that the Irish were treasonous to ask for independence?
Ah, the refuge when losing - “you put too many facts in your post”. Tough luck.
As to the Mayor of this small council in NI - he should resign. Supporting terrorists like the IRA is just wrong.
