Been there a few times but the last time was still many, many moons ago. Used to stay at the Mermaid Beach Club. I think it got hosed during a hurricane a few years back but reopened as The Breakers. Oceanfront along the south coast below Elbow Beach. Small place, not like the big resorts such as Elbow Beach, Hamilton Princess or Sonesta. Much more personable and relaxing and yes, very clean. Sits up on the rocks with a private beach below. Many parts of the movie The Deep was filmed at Marley Beach just to the east. I was always able to grab the unit furthest out next to the ocean with the waves crashing on the rocks below.
Bermuda was pretty pricey grocery-wise as everything is imported. Looking into some entertainment packages may save some bucks. A lot of seniors and young newlyweds with tours and entertainment events geared toward them.
The Island is only maybe 26 miles long but plenty to see and do. Very scenic. Somerset, Hamilton, Grotto Bay, St. George are nice and the there was the Blue Grotto Dolphin Show that was pretty amazing. You could do it all in a day and be done but take your time and take all week. And there are plenty of quaint little bar and grill establishments to refill on rum swizzles along the way. Grab a moped and go. Stop along the way if you see a nice beach and take a dip. Explore on your own schedule. Each time I went I had a blast.
I suggest flying in for a full week’s vacation and not taking a cruise ship (less itinerary the better).
Side note: It was always interesting to see who showed up to breakfast each morning sporting a new cast on their arm or leg from moped wrecks. :-)
Enjoy!
True dat! Depends on de place tho. Do you remember the name of the pub? It was likely a very ‘locals’ place. The island is small and its population as well. We literally see the same people here day to day and you pretty much know who is local and who is visiting. Its not unlikely the fellow next to you visits the pub and sits in that spot every day! I prefer to think of it as a ‘frequent visitor’ discount :)

Paradise, we have cruised to Bermuda 3 times. The most beautiful place on earth. It is very expensive otherwise but if you can do it good for you! Elbow Beach was my favorite.
Also, there are beautiful beaches that can be found by asking the locals. We found a cove with huge blue fish, and barely anyone around. Do not forget your snorkel gear. I will be back.
BTW, there was no car rental as of last June. Grab a scooter. Way too much fun
My Bermuda stay was at the Lantana Colony Club, which likely no longer exists. Compared to the southern Caribbean island of Aruba, Bermuda has a lovely climate. Bring casual/nice summer clothing like collared shirts/polos, long shorts, and your best manners. :)
Bet ya dollars to donuts it was the Swizzle Inn.
Great rum swizzles!
You are a fortunate soul. I agree with your assessment. Love the place.
We took a boat trip and toured “The Flatts”. The aquarium and zoo is fun and also the crystal caves. Since we were pressed for time we have visited Grotto Bay Beach, Horseshoe Bay and Elbow. We don’t do scooters they drive like maniacs. We took the bus and walked to other parts of the Island.
ha. yes it is. Didn’t notice that. Pre-coffee, blurry eyed non cheater glasses wearing time of the morning.
I didnt mean to be rude so I hope I asked in the right spirit!
Ive been to Atlantis. Never Bermuda.
Scooters, a Very Dangerous choice. English road rules. Traffic on left. One mistake, POOF. Happens OFTEN there.
We came close to slipping in front of an oncoming car. Must pay close attention. One rider met the front of a bus while we were on the island. Not a good way to go. As with anything adventurous, your life is in your hands. Don’t be a wimp.
No, I do not remember the name of the pub, but id didn’t seem to me to be far from where the cruise ships come in. Our boat, a Beneteau 42, was not far from (or at) the RN Dockyard as I remember, where they had a travelift.
Atlantis is not on Bermuda....it’s in the Bahamas.
However, my Favorite thing is seeing all the men in their Sport Coats, Ties and Bermuda Shorts with those thingys that hold up their knee high sox!! FABULOUS!
The N Dawn was good, and is being replaced by the N Gem to Bermuda.
The Serenade of the Seas does Bermuda and New England Trips.
I give a slight edge to the Serenade of the Seas.
It is faster, and gives you a few more hours in Bermuda, the food is good and it rides well in slop, and getting on and off seems to be less of a hassle. - Tom
thx for that informative post....envious of you for living in such a place....
The Hamilton Princess and the Southampton Princess are both worth visiting, even just for tea. If you have the money to stay there, it’s hard to find anyplace nicer in the world.
