If Trump wins re-election in 2020, he will have served for 8 years in office. The statue of limitations will run out on (bogus) campaign finance laws.
If Trump does not win re-election in 2020, he resigns 1 day before a new president takes office. Pence becomes president for 1 day. President Pence pardons Trump (and anyone else the Dems plan to terrorize).

The DEMs could challenge the constitutionality of that.
But they can’t challenge the constitutionality of President Pence issuing a pardon.
The campaign finance charge is so weak... but if the trial occurred in DC, that jury wouldn’t care what the legal issues were.
If a defendant in a criminal case flees the country for 25 years, the statute of limitations doesn't apply to the period when the defendant is outside the jurisdiction of the prosecuting authority.

But I don’t think statute of limitations is consistent in application. Sometimes they can stop the clock by issuing a “john doe” indictment, naming the real defendant later when identified. I don’t know if that applies here or not.
I just know that there are different circumstances in which that clock can be stopped or started, and it varies by jurisdiction.
