Would Americans welcome Alberta into the Union?

Posted on 12/09/2018 4:34:17 AM PST by Jonty30

We have third largest proven reserves of oil in the world and our pretty bird Prime Minister wants to keep locked up, even if every Albertans starves to death.

Any takers?

British Columbia would probably opt for China.

They hate American politics but pretend to be experts on the subject.

Sorry, but probably not for now. In 2015, the NDP won 54 of the 87 seats in AB. The constituents of that commie Party would certainly hurt us down here as...well, new Democrats.

On the other hand, if the UC and FCP could win a clear majority in AB, start to get along with each other and show some certainty that they could hold on to government, then yes. And if they could survive the culture shock of agreeing with U.S. Republicans and learn to like us,... Then yes, we would welcome them with open arms.

Trade Alberta and Manitoba to the US for California and Western Oregon and Washington. Good trade for us...

We give them everything east of the Hudson River and take Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia north of the 50 degree parallel in return.

The portion of BC south of the 50 could be leased to China as a special enclave.

As a part-time Albertan I say HELL NO. Anyone would be a damn fool to voluntarily put themselves under the yoke of the Great Satan.

Any real Americans are always welcome.

A couple years ago I ran into some Hillary supporters from Kentucky. I told them that they were traitors to their country, to freedom and to the ones who fought for them. I don’t think they thought I was very welcoming heh.

Residents of upstate New York’s southern tier feel the same way.

"Wasn't Alberta settled by a number of Americans anyway?"

Some, probably. It's quite a mix up there, really. There are some groups recently descended from other countries, and some of them seemed to retain their former cultures to some extents (as is happening more recently on our U.S. coasts, too).

I don't know how bringing AB in as a state would turn out, politically. Most of the people seem very nice and easy going, but there are also some cultural contrasts and conflicts. It's not as scary corruption-wise as parts of southern BC, though.

The vote was split.

If we had a combined conservative vote, the ndp would of been crushed.

Better that than Puerto Rico.

And we can sell Hawaii to the Japanese while we’re at it.

But we still need to figure out where to flush California ...

Ah. There you are. Maybe you saw my concern about the NDP influence there since 2015 in an earlier comment. What do you think would happen, if AB joined the States? Would our likelihood of keeping Republican majorities be better or worse?

And which would be more likely to be conservative in the U.S. sense? Would southern AB including Calgary and/or maybe Red Deer be more conservative (U.S. style) or northern AB including Edmonton?

First question Albertans must ask themselves .... ARE THEY WILLING TO ABANDON THEIR “FREE” HEALTHCARE?

All of AB is quite conservative save the university campuses typically. The problem is in the last few years all of the immigrants they’ve shoved at us. Albertans as a whole though are extremely conservative to the point of not liking public healthcare and public schools. We also own tons of firearms and shoot a lot heh.

Also, good morning.

All we need is for the remaining Canada to be any more leftist than it is!

That is, I think we need you and your oil to stay in Canada and help to balance the vote while keeping them economically afloat.

We’ve traveled quite a bit to Manitoba and some to Saskatchewan and found the people to be much like conservative Republican Californians, which is what my sister is who lives there.

By talking to her you’d swear she’s a democrat, that is a democrat from a central state where they are not openly anti-American or bat$hit crazy like the diehard lefties of the left coast.

My point is, the central provinces would likely be blue due to the socialist influence over the last several decades.
