Catherine Herridge reporting (FOX) that Comey is behind doors with two attorneys and his attorney from the Justice Department is doing a number on the investigative Committee, exhibiting a heavy dose of verbalist interruptus on penetrating questions that Comey must not answer.

Another Nothingburger coming? What’s New Pussycat?

So tired of reruns of spinning wheels, on a trip to nowhere, but we must realize congressional committees were never going to be the vehicle for landing any meaningful blows.

Always a Gowdy style show, entertaining, but guaranteed to never produce an ending. Hoped it would be different under a Republican executive branch, rather than Obama’s.

Guess not.

It is the responsibility of Whittaker and Wray to make sure they’ve got the attorney they want there making the interruptions they want.

Let’s hope it is more being investigated that they are protecting for now rather than the DS still running things over there.

The way they are run, and with no punishment for wrongdoers who refuse to answer or even are proven to be wrongdoers, Congressional hearings can’t be any different. AFAIK, the most they can do is recommend that the DOJ undertake a criminal investigation.

Maybe generations ago Congressional hearings had teeth, but I have no idea how they could get teeth at this point.

If some criminal like Comey has his lawyers say “he can’t answer”, what is the solution? I have no idea. Beat them with rattan canes? That sounds good to me.

Interesting twatters concerning Comey's non-answering, in connection with the DOJ lawyer.

"Congressman Issa (R-CA) said: Comey is in there with two attorneys. One that’s from the DoJ has repeatedly, I would say at his gleeful acceptance, instructed that he will not be answering a great many questions that are clearly items at core of our investigation"— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) December 7, 2018

This may seem daunting, but this is actually a good sign. The DOJ lawyer is making sure Comey doesn’t compromise any current ongoing investigations. Meaning that all the malfeasance that Congress is asking about, is already under investigation. Huber.

Bill, he does not work for the DOJ. Why does he have a DOJ attorney?— Kid Natural (@DC_Villanus) December 7, 2018

Me: As stated above: There is a DoJ attorney present to make sure info connected to ongoing investigations is not made public and thus said investigations may be compromised.

Asking questions to a witness, without a judge there to tell the witness to answer, and to tell the witness’ lawyers that their objection is overruled, is usually an exercise in frustration.
