My wife, bless her heart, had the habit of slurring the initials together and calling them “heebs” or “heebies”. When we got back to Michigan, everyone around hear looked at her with crazy stink eye.
I finally broke down and told her that heeb was a slur used against Jewish folks. It was really hard to do with a straight face. I’d let her run with it for 5 years down in Texas (where no one really cared).

yeah but... we grew up calling it the heeb. Had one Jewish gal in my high school. She made the most of saying the heeb oughtta be hers.
At any rate you know a lot of us Texans can't get the right groceries we want without the heeb. There's some other chains now that cater to Texas cuisine but until 10 or 15 years ago no other chain worked. Granted, in our hometowns there'd be locally owned stores we could patronize. But when heading to a new town we had to rely on HEB for fixins.

I grow most of my peppers in pots so they last years. Have to be careful with the habs to keep them from cross pollinating sweet peppers. They're all indoors now and blooming. I always know the winter peppers will be warmish because I don't have room to separate.
You are correct tho, I intend to keep 3 habaneros next spring. Seeds ready to go in next month. I sell plants on our county-wide yard sale day every spring. Last year I only kept the one habanero because they just tear up my belly anymore. 2 weeks after my plant sale last spring I went to Alabama for 9 days with grandkids there. Rain was forecast here throughout my vacay but hubby knew to water if we went 3 days without rain. His mother thought to be helpful, emptied 3 1/2 rain barrels watering despite 5 days of rain. Lost all my maters and half my peppers.

I may be wrong but I also note, of the 3 grandkids old enough to vote, all voted conservative. I think the time spent talking to them as youngsters opens the door to them listening to serious discussions when they are older. We can't start dialogue of "cause and effect" too young. Tales help get them listening.
