Do You Agree? ‘Exorcist’ Ranked Greatest Horror Movie Of All-Time
Study Finds ^ | 10/31/18 | Ben Renner

Happy Halloween! With Michael Myers returning to the big screen just in time for his favorite holiday this year, it’s as good a time as ever to poll Americans on their most beloved horror movies of all-time. A new survey finds that despite the many heart-pounding fright flicks that have spooked moviegoers in recent years, you’ll have to turn back the clock for the scariest films ever.

The survey of 2,000 American adults, commissioned by video streaming service Vudu, had few surprises. Americans agreed that the most horrifying film ever created was The Exorcist, followed by the first iterations of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Rounding out the top five, perhaps unexpectedly for some, was the 2013 haunted house nightmare The Conjuring — the only horror film made in the past 30 years to make the top five.

Meanwhile, when it came to the most popular horror villain, it was no surprise either that the man who sets out to haunt nightmares, Freddy Krueger, of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, took the top spot. Michael Myers from Halloween came in second, followed by Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs) and Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

And then there's "Attack Of The Street Pimps"

Wasn't that the group of street thugs outside the election venue in Philadelphia?

It’s the one that bothered me the most, and for the longest time. So ... yeah.

When we were in high school, my sister, cousins, and I found a book in one of our fathers’ libraries written by some foreign missionaries. It was about their dealings with demons, demon possession, etc., on the mission field. We read it in a tent while we were camping one summer, and it scared the crap out of us. And 10 years later when I saw this movie, it had the same effect.

“Maybe if one is Catholic. But no otherwise.”

I’m Baptist, and The Exorcist scared me to death. Satan is real, seriously dangerous, and terrifying.

The Ghoul was awesome. The large exploding fireworks stunts were the best...

I actually watched it yesterday, Exorcist, the version you’ve never seen.
It was during the day. The sun was shining. My windows were open. The birds were chirping.

Still scared the sh*t out of me!

"I owned a haunted house and could tell you stories... I have no doubt in a realm beyond death, none"

I hope sometime you share some of your experiences perhaps on some thread related to that subject. I am truly interested.

I wasn’t a Catholic when I saw “The Exorcist” and I was absolutely terrified.

I converted to Catholicism in 1993, and the movie scares me less—because I KNOW no demon can defeat the Power of Jesus Christ.

I’m actually kind of proud now that when it comes to demons and exorcisms, the Catholic Church is almost always called in. When the regular Navy isn’t enough, you have to bring in the Navy Seals. :0)

The Omen and The Boys From Brazil terrified me. Both movies had me thinking about them for a long while. Regular horror movies, not so much. Although, after seeing Halloween 2, my friends and I checked out the car thoroughly prior to getting in. lol
