I posted this in the other thread on this. Whatever jokes you want to make about Spain’s subs, just look at Germany. The Kriegsmarine has all of 6 U-boats NONE of which can even put to sea they’re in such a dilapidated state. It’s just as well since they only have 3 trained crews for those 6 unseaworthy U-boats. This, for a country with the 4th largest economy in the world.

Of course only FOUR of the Luftwaffe’s 129 fighters are combat ready and fewer than 100 of the Bundeswehr’s 225 panzers are operational. Their troops in Afghanistan were judged by the US Army to be undertrained, under equipped and “not up to it”. Their own Defense minister publicly called Germany’s troops “too fat to fight”.

This is what spending 1% of GDP on Defense gets you.
