Bedrock in West Antarctica rising at surprisingly rapid rate
Phys.org ^ | June 21, 2018, | The Ohio State University

The unexpectedly fast rate of the rising earth may markedly increase the stability of the ice sheet against catastrophic collapse due to ice loss, scientists say. Moreover, the rapid rise of the earth in this area also affects gravity measurements, which implies that up to 10 percent more ice has disappeared in this part of Antarctica than previously assumed.

Researchers led by scientists at The Ohio State University used a series of six GPS stations (part of the POLENET-ANET array) attached to bedrock around the Amundsen Sea Embayment to measure its rise in response to thinning ice.

The "uplift rate" was measured at up to 41 millimeters (1.6 inches) a year, said Terry Wilson, one of the leaders of the study and a professor emeritus of earth sciences at Ohio State.

The findings, reported in the journal Science, have surprising and positive implications for the survival of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS), which scientists had previously thought could be doomed because of the effects of climate change. The rebound can only be measured (by GPS gages at least) where the bedrock is visible around the ice cap itself. Othereise, you can only drill mile-deep borehole through the ice, them the top of ice and the depth of the borehole. If they didnt, they’ve only measured where the bedrock is squeezed up by increased mass of ice in the center. But that is not the politically corrupt politically funded answer they were looking for to support the CAGW conclusions they wanted.

Why don’t they mention the 91 volcanoes found UNDER West Antarctica?

good opportunity for Miskatonic University send an expedition to investigate some remote mountain ranges.

They may want to read this book before packing their bags: :-)

What is the “correct” sea level? (any level that ‘scares cash' out of taxpayers)

What is the “correct” amount of ice? (any amount that frightens citizen into giving power to liberal elites)

What is the “correct” global temperature? (any temperature that can justify insane environmental extremes that benefit liberal elites)

Go down to the sea and you will see the same level of water. Water cannot possible rise in one location and not another as the oceans are all connected.

At both poles they are a string of volcanoes under the ice or under the sea that are active thereby raising the temperature of the water.

Well, as the glacier ice melts from GW there is less pressure on the earth under the ice. So now it keeps rising like bread! OMG GW “is” causing this! lol

One report says there is less Antarctic ice on one part of the shelf, another says that there is now more than ever before. Maybe it is Antarctica that is going to flip over...

Dutchsinse.com is showing a whole lot more activity. Even couple of volcanic plumes out of some S. CA volcanos.

Why is it rising? Volcanic perhaps? Would that melt ice? What happens when a volcanic reaction meets large amount of water? Will the ice flow shatter if there is a major eruption. Just trying to emulate mass media creating paranoia.
