BOGOTA, Colombia - Conservative Ivan Duque captured Colombia's presidency Sunday, bringing to power a U.S.-educated 41-year-old whose victory promises an aggressive new era in the drug war and could upend a historic peace deal that ended Latin America's longest running insurgency.

Now mind you.

This could go horribly offline.

Or else, it could be a fabulous opportunity, for a real change in the region.

The guy is US-educated.

It all depends, if he also received a big portion of moral right, from his American time. Is he another Trump?

Could be very, very good for a lot of people.

We'll see.

The guy is US-educated.

That could be a big problem right there.

we’ll see. I was in Bogota in summer 2014 and found the people really fantastic. Respectful and well dressed. A generally solid bunch. The days of Pablo Escobar are long gone. Colombians are a proud people that seem very passionate about who they are. Everyone we ran into was excited and eager to talk to us in English (even thought I speak Spanish). A few people said that they don’t see too many Americans there. Overall it was a good experience.

I am in Paris right now and the French reporters sound just like pmsnbc regarding Columbia election.
They seem very unsettled and shaken!
I call this a good thing

I knew the Colombian people had enough sense not to vote in a socialist. If any of them want a lesson in socialism all they have to do is go out in the street and talk to one of the many Venezuelan migrants that reside in Colombia.

It’s so good to see Communists losing other places, just like they have been here.

Hey! I’m back in the states now..the mood was very upset with the thought of Petro. But so many are sick of the corruption. Euroweenies and lefties from the U.S. helped Petro

Hey man - Thanks for the update. Wow...damn the UN! What we saw was a lot of propaganda hitting on corruption of Duque and apparently some major scandal revealed about Uribe (I have no idea what the truth is) but family fell for it. I don't know how everyone ended up voting but all I could do is draw comparisons between FARC and and non-FARC as well as mentioned that Venezuela thinks Colombia would be a nice colony if it wasn't for Colombians.

That got attention but I don't know if it helped. :/

I'll follow up with family at length later this year.

Hope you are loving it down there. We are very concerned about the invasion of refugees North from Venezuelan refugees and crime families. I hope they get smart fast!

I hope he’s a pissed off Uribe. The only good socialists in Colombia are fertilizer for the jungle.
