Hey, here’s some news - most Americans are White men.
“Isn’t it possible that they are more white men interested in being movie critics than anyone else?”
The author also failed to mention illegals. After all, wouldn’t we all like to watch “How to” movies about scaling walls and fences, stealing identities, wriggling thru tunnels, etc.?
yeah, but I’ll bet 80% of white male movie critics are gay. So it’s a wash.
You must have missed the Tony’s.
Maybe they simply have absolutely nothing of value to say, and nothing that relates to me or my people, or nothing that resounds with my culture, values, and norms.
That's been my experience.
Of course for me movies are escape. I don't go to movies for "education". That's what books are for, and if I want to learn about, oh, "oppression" or something, that's where I go.
My critique of a movie is simple, though some may call it simplistic. There is a good guy, a bad guy, and a girl. At the end of the movie The good guy has the girl, and the bad guy is dead. The more the movie deviates from the, the less I like it.
Now, if the writer and director want to add social lessons, I don't care, as long as the film has these bare bones. I either accept or ignore said lesson as my education and experience instruct me.
What I can't stand are those movies that either have no true protagonist, or the protagonist is a bad guy, IMO.
And that's my opinion of movies.
