A drug-fueled sex fad called "chemsex" was linked to increased risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with men (MSM), researchers found.
Gay, bisexual or other MSM who disclosed use of chemsex were more likely to be newly diagnosed with HIV infection, acute bacterial and rectal STIs, and hepatitis C, reported Mark Pakianathan, MBChB, of Wandsworth Integrated Sexual Health at The Courtyard Clinic in London, and colleagues.

Have never heard the term “Chemsex” before, but I imagine it does not involve Hazmat Suits (although it probably should)
Who is actually surprised that drug-fueled high-risk sexual encounters would result in increased exposure to STDs? This is like being surprised that Russian Roulette can lead to gunshot wounds.

Only the term “chemsex” is “new”. The rest of the facts of what it is and where it is practiced, demographically, in greater %’s than elsewhere are old news. I also do not think it is news that the chemicals involved are bad enough for one’s health to likely lower not just “inhibitions” but the body’s defenses against infections.
Well, I hope they think it was worth it, but I’m sure they rather regret their behavior. Don’t look for anyone else to save you, talk to your gay brethren and warn them yourself.

There was a theory that HIV alone did not result in a.i.d.s. but with use of particular drugs for “recreation” that supressed/altered the immune system.
