I think a person can still be just a plain ol’ bum without having to be all of those other things, and I’ll bet parents are more reluctant to boot their daughters out of the nest than they are their sons.

He can live at Starbucks now. Free wi-fi and don’t have to buy anything!

And toilets. Don’t forget the toilets.

3 weeks after I got my high school diploma, I was standing in the Army recruiting station, pen in hand and ready to roll like I had always wanted.

I just evicted my youngest son a few weeks ago, after 6 months of him screwing atound, smoking dope (like I couldn't tell, heh), quitting or getting fired from 4 jobs, and playing video games. I made it clear that if he wasn't gone by the beginning of May, I would have a deputy drag him out and bring along a drug dog for good measure to go over his room and walk past his car.

This was his third and last chance to come home to get sorted out. May seem like a heavy-handed approach, but I'm no longer in a condition to go for a roll in the dirt with a 6'1" 250lb baby huey that said he wanted to beat me down.

Why am I saying all this? I woke up an hour ago with heartburn and I'm still waiting for the antacids to work....lol.

I don’t think this is unusual. As parents get elderly they don’t stand up to their children and get stuck in situations. I know of two similar sad situations.

Empty all of his accommodations/furniture/clothing and put locks on the bathrooms and the fridge w/o giving him the combinations.

I did the same thing to my son when he was 18. Pot, liquor. constant traffic fines. He is now 45 and a teacher and coach. Says my kicking him out was a wake up call and completely agrees with my decision!!!

Discontinue to provide internet service and get your own cell phone. Unhook every possible landline you can... And that computer gaming fool will probably leave for greener pastures.

Oh, and don’t forget to start cooking from scratch. Everything. no cans no boxes just raw ingredients and the idiot in the spare bedroom won’t even know how to graze.

that’s rough, but I agree you did the right thing. That first step of really being a grown-up - i.e. going out on your own - is hard, but it doesn’t get easier for them by waiting til they’re thirty! Good luck to you and your son.

Exactly. Why wasn’t the son’s stuff out on the front porch and all the locks changed in the house when he got back from court?

Tough, but necessary. Maybe hand him a copy of Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules for Life and call it good.

***Any ideas?***

NO!!

He had two stable parents, - clearly he always had psychological problems, which were not identified as such or treated. How many parents ever acknowledge they have ‘crazy’ kids until it’s too late?
