Or read the book about the "Moby Dick" Whaling expedition.
Ditto on the roast chicken drumstick bones since a young boy. Since I wasn’t allowed to crack them at the table, mom knew she could always count on me to clear the table when chicken drum sticks were involved. Sat in the kitchen working on them. Ground up a lot of bone as well. Same with pork ribs. Dog would give me the stink eye as he never got any of mine.
Beef bone marrow, great for rich fall and winter soups, add some Burgandy and it’s heavenly.
Not I, but then, I’ve always been a picky eater. However, if I was hungry enough, and that was the available food, of course I’d eat it. I’ve noticed that old timers, especially black and native Americans, eat the gristle, the fat, and everything in between. And not just because they’re hungry -— they were raised that way, and in those hard times, a lot of them WERE hungry.
But, I guarantee, most of you’ll be grossed out to know that the Chinese have a dish prepared from hog penises! (Although I don’t doubt Indians, blacks, and other poor folks did too, in the old days).
