It is rampant where I live in the local churches. One worship leader said it best: The more a person knows about the content and history of the bible, the less sure they are of any of their opinions.
And I’ve seen both that and its direct opposite down here in the bible belt. Its opposite is a fascinating thing to experience. It is also called religious bigotry.
I can do a credible job explaining the wisdom of Evolution, Abortion, high taxes, and illegal immigration. I disagree with all of that, but I can tell you why Liberals think they are good.
But flip it around? Do Liberals understand my positions on the above issues? Well: I’m a Nazi. That’s about as far as they can go.
Its been a long time since one article said so much, attacked everyone, yet complimented them at the same time, explained itself, gave examples, pissed you off, then cooled you down, and upon finishing reading the article (this is important), gives you an insight to those who infuriate you, and also illuminates you to why you infuriate others, without offending you or anybody else. Well written, and insightful.
I hope you read the ENTIRE article.
Well done.
I would like to see the author make a slimmed down version of this; one that uses less than 900 words. It could pass as a well-published editorial in like the Wall Street Journal.
In elementary and middle schools, children get participation trophies because "everyone is a winner."
High schools are under pressure to lower academic standards to keep their graduation rates high. Colleges are under pressure to lower academic standards for admission and for graduation to bring in tuition money, and, of course, to make sure that "minority" students can get in and get degrees.
Instead of academic rigor, colleges offer self-esteem courses and "safe spaces" for students.
Social media has created a mindset where everyone can pretend that their Facebook page and Instagram account makes him a celebrity. They can link to celebrity profiles as "friends" to maintain the pretense that they too are famous for being famous.
Computer and video games allow kids to pretend that they're skilled marksmen, fighters, athletes, outdoorsmen, etc all without having to acquire any of the skills necessary to be any of those things.
Is it any wonder that we have a generation of MacArthur Wheeler's running around? All that's missing is the lemon juice.
And I’ve always thought it was just the way of middle management.
I'm glad someone is saying this. Much as I despise the GOP establishment never Trumpers and the liberals having conniption fits over Trump, I've always found unconditional adoration of any political figure to be disturbing and un-American. When you're not willing to criticize "your" politician for doing the same things you criticize the other side's politicians for doing, you aren't thinking, you're engaged in North Korean-style worship of a Dear Leader.
I grew up in a very strong Union family. The Democrats were for the working man.
I went to public school.
I attended a very liberal university.
I am a Conservative.
What changed me?
Becoming an Army Officer.
But, becoming an Army Officer doesnt make everyone who does it Conservative.
I know many Liberal Army Officers.
Sometimes, reality just smacks you upside your head and you learn from it.
