Wehr = war (As in Wehrmacht = German Army).

Krieg is German for war. As in Blitzkrieg - lightning war.

Wehr is more along the lines of force. Which is as you described - German Army. Wehrmacht means armed forces or defense force, depending on point of view. Gewehr means rifle (basically anything not select-fire), and Sturmgewehr means assault rifle (which was select-fire).

My Surface automatic spell checker disagrees!
It makes decisions before I can stop it.

Yeah, I forgot. It's been 50 years.

My original point being, that "Werewolves" would be an easy "slant" for the Allies to nickname the holdouts from the old Wehrmacht. Come to think of it, we in the District of Corruption have "Werewolves" in Hillary's The Resistance/Antifa/Deep State/Shadow Government. (And at Kalorama—in sight of the White House).

Maybe it's time to refresh the name from WWII?

Huh?

We could just call it "The 20th Century"

Anyone else have any stories like these?

Kind of. A couple of years ago I saw a Danish movie, "Land of Mine". It was the story of a group of German soldiers in Denmark immediately following the war. Before the Danish government would allow them to be repatriated back to Germany they forced German prisoners to clear the 1.5 million landmines that had been laid along the Danish coastline. I won't go into the dramatic parts, but the movie claimed to be based on a true story so I did do some research on it. It seems that Denmark and Great Britain did indeed keep several thousand German soldiers, mostly late war teenaged draftees, to clean up mines. The solider were given only the most rudimentary training before being sent out to clear the beaches, and over half of them were killed or maimed in the process. Doing this actually fell into the category of a war crime since the Geneva Convention forbids the use of prisoners to perform dangerous work. But it was the winners doing it.

Great movie, too.
