Britain 'four meals away from anarchy' if cyber attack takes out power grid
yahoo ^ | 03/17/2018

The warning comes weeks after the Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said Russia had been spying on the UK’s energy infrastructure and could cause “thousands and thousands and thousands” of deaths if it crippled the power supply.

America this week blamed the Russian government for a campaign of cyber attacks stretching back at least two years that targeted the US power grid.

Energy and security experts say a cyber attack is one of a number of so-called “black sky hazards” that have the potential to knock out power for days, weeks or even longer across large parts of a country, or even continent.

As well as a cyber attack, other black sky risks include extreme weather, an electromagnetic pulse caused by a nuclear detonation in the atmosphere and terrorist attacks on key substations or transformers.

One of the most destructive risks would be a powerful solar storm. A previous storm in 1859, now known as the Carrington Event, caused so much geomagnetic disruption that telegraph operators reported sparks bursting out of their machines. Such a storm today could cause havoc to electrical systems.

Lord Arbuthnot of Edrom, a former chair of the Commons defence committee who now advises the Electric Infrastructure Security Council, said modern life had complete reliance on electricity.

The one thing they seem to be really good at is stealing, killing and destroying.

I elect to follow Proverbs 29:9.

Have a good night.

“Do on line in store pick up.”

I like the Amazon option. They have HUGE WAREHOUSES, I’m sure they’ll keep a special supply for me, for when the SHTF.

I’ll just order what I need on the web.

Sounds great, but as soon as all your neighbors who are living in the cold, cold darkness, see the lights on at your place and look through your windows to see your family sitting down for a nice meal in a warm house, you won’t have any of that stuff anymore.

Desperate people who are freezing and starving won’t care if you have a gun or not. They may also have one, and they’ll be able to see you through the windows of your well-lit house.

I’m just sayin’. Put it all in an underground concrete bunker with no windows if you want to keep it.

No surprise here. Russia has always been looking for ways to disable the US. The electric grid is one way. We do the same thing to them. It is part of war planning and intel operations.

That’s one reason for solar: quiet.
Go to bed at dusk, get up at dawn, no reason to advertise the fact your fridge is still cold and your communications still work.

You get bonus points for having a generator to power the gas pump too!

“. I think with Spring almost here we will see blankets going on sale very soon. I will be looking to stock up.”

When we moved we bought probably 30 to 40 moving blankets. At Harbor freight with coupons. I’m going to keep every single one of them. So far they have been incredibly handy for all sorts of things. Haven’t needed them to keep warm yet, but I’m sure they’ll work for that.

I was prepared at one time. But now my cache of batteries is getting old. I didn’t move the oil lamps with us. Although we did get a house with a generator and a huge propane tank to fuel it. But still, I need to do better at keeping up my preps.

Pig Clubs - Growers signed up voluntarily. They got govt grain rations for the pigs (not all of which was used for the pigs, btw). The govt then -Purchased- half of the pig (at a market-rate price). The pig money reimbursed the pig growers for their garden scraps and labor. There was nothing compulsive about Pig Clubs.

“When they were ready for slaughter, which was a big day in the life of the Club, half of the carcasses were sold to the Government, to help with the rationing, and the remainder was divided between Club members, as either pork or bacon. “

Pretty good shape for weeks or months. First eat the stuff in Refrigerator, and start canning frozen stuff on rocket stove.

Generator will keep food from spoiling long enough for that. If we cycle that, it will do even longer.

Later, for keeping food for a day: Metal kettle or can put food inside. Set it in the bathtub, and wrap it up with dripping wet towels or burlap bags. Evaporation will cool it.

We understand the concept and are prepared. We are at the top of the hill in the middle of several acres. Our property is pretty defend-able.

We understand that that we can’t hold off an army but anything less will take very severe losses trying to get in.

Aren’t we doing the same #### to them? Seeing if it’s feasible to knock it out? Doing tests?

Seeing if we CAN hack their system?

A lot different than doing it.

Likke testing a missile and landing one on a country.

The powers that be in W Europe and the deep state here want the heat TAKEN OFF OF THEM and will say or do anything.

Even destroy the world.

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to get information from our govts.

Yet they are openly blabbing about Russia doing this and Russia doing that.

Not suspicious at all /s

I love the smell of coffee but could never get past the taste so don’t drink it myself.

However, we have a coffee pot and coffee for company.

And I also know that should the SHTF, it’d be worth it’s weight in gold. Or more.

You can’t eat gold.
