After making history as the first woman of color to helm a $100 million-plus live-action film in A Wrinkle In Time, Ava DuVernay will continue to play in the event film sandbox. She’s closing a deal with Warner Bros and DC to direct a big-budget screen adaptation of The New Gods, the creation of revered comic book impresario Jack Kirby. The studio has set Kario Salem (Chasing Mavericks) as the writer; he’ll craft the narrative and work closely with DuVernay.

This society rewards failure. This women butchered "A Wrinkle of Time" and now she is given the keys to a DC Comic franchise. No wonder outside of Christopher Nolan all the DC Comic book movies suck.

So, the reward for a director who makes an expensive and terrible movie is being immediately hired to direct an even more expensive, but no doubt still terrible, movie.

Ain’t Hollywood grand?

$100 million-plus. What's that...the LOSS Disney will take on the film? Because it's only made $40 million at the box.

Out of all the zillions of DC comics that I have read, the ONLY DC set that I kept (and still have) is The New Gods, The Forever People, and Mister Miracle (the Jack Kirby trilogy). And now we see that the whole DC movie franchise is starting to head in the direction of making Darkseid the ultimate villain. On the Marvel side, they are heading in the direction of Thanos (the Marvel version of Darkseid). The only Marvel comics set that I still own is The Infinity Wars.

Out of the entire sea of DC and Marvel comics, I reached out and picked the one gem on either side. In all modesty, I really have to pat myself on the back for this, as, after 40 years, the entire rest of the world catches up to me. Yea Me!!

Not Disney. Warner Brothers.

"Wrinkle" is Disney, and is to what the author referred in "first woman of color to helm a $100 million-plus live-action film." After production and promotion, the film will likely lose a bundle.

From the article:

"The deities inhabit two planets: one is New Genesis, a lush paradise, and the other Apokolips, which sounds like Dante’s version of hell. War ensues. There is a rich universe of extraordinary characters for DuVernay to play with here."

Another potential fail like Suicide Squad where they try to introduce too many characters too soon.

Oh, she’ll F it up for sure. Chock full of social messages. Enough to ruin it. I still stand up for Suicide Squad. I got about half a crush on Harley Quinn. The CGI kinda sucked, though. I’ve always been a Marvel guy.
