In the video half the cops fell to the ground and fired aimlessly. Hit nothing. This is what passes for law enforcement these days and what is “protecting” schools. Nice marksmanship there Sgt. Yorks.

Yep. Armed and dangerous perp had a covered position, and much of the police fire served as suppressive fire. Officers shoot until threat is eliminated. Perp was not hit, so I assume he gave up to superior firepower display.

Incident will be reviewed, of course.

That was my thought also. Why risk losing your job, your savings to hire a lawyer and possibly go to prison. It appears that the police were in a no win situation.

Well they couldn’t SEE the guy — he was inside the RV and they were simply firing at the RV. No knowledge of where in the RV he might be.

Now if any of the police shots missed the RV entirely.... that would be like “can’t hit the broad side of a barn!”

“interesting the the “hit” percentage for legally armed civilians has always been higher than that of law enforcement officers.”

Cops are also legally armed civilians. Thugs are, too. So were every mass murderer and suicidal nutcase. Being legally armed is everybody’s birthright. Only full due process can take away that right.

I made the mistake of going to my range when there were a half dozen LEO’s there, mostly states. Never ever again. Terrible shots and range safety is not in their vocabulary. I no longer shoot at that range.

I’m giving the seeming lack of accuracy of the police gunfire some leeway due to the fact that they were shooting into the RV, apparently in hopes of hitting the suspect. I also think of their shots as supressive fire to keep the criminal from firing back at them. Since he apparently surrendered, I would say that they achieved their mission of apprehending the criminal.

Just issue them bricks ... at their skill level they could do just as well with a brick and they wouldn’t have to worry about a safety, reloading, or shooting themselves in the foot.

I find it interesting the the “hit” percentage for legally armed civilians has always been higher than that of law enforcement officers.

Legally armed civilians are more likely to actually spend time at the range. Too many cops only fire their weapons during their semi-annual (or even annual) qualifier. I've shot the police qualifier. It's NOT that hard.

Watching the video: the cops hear the shot from inside the RV, and then proceed to ventilate the vehicle with 65 shots, with the cops unable to know, and evidently not caring, who else might be inside the RV.

About 20 years ago I used to have a lot of contact with an elderly bailiff, who as a younger officer worked at everything from a highway patrol trooper, up to police chief. He was no fan of semiautomatic in police hands, and received a special dispensation to keep his revolver, or "wheel gun" as he called it, when the department switched to Glocks. He often expressed the opinion, usually through a cloud of cigarette smoke, that "If an officer needs more than six shots, he needs more than a pistol. All those high capacity automatics do is encourage you to shoot without stopping to aim."

I've never been a cop, and if I ever were to be, I expect that I would want all the ammunition possible. And a bearer carrying more ammunition, and perhaps a ballistic shield.

But every time I read one of these of the stories, I wonder if perhaps the old guy was right.

Not that interesting, or surprising. As a long time competitive pistol shooter, I’ve been around lots of law enforcement types. Unless they are gun enthusiasts, they are no different than the average guy, or worse.

And hit nobody in 65 shots???? Notice to all officers - - - all officers will report to the police weapon’s qualification’s range on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and NO ONE will be allowed to leave until all officers have qualified, this time by actually hitting the targets!!!
