Recorded calls are an excellent method
for luring predators in close for a kill.
My question in this is that the article
said the shooter mistook the call for
coyotes roaming the area near his home.
You don’t call coyotes in with the call
or sound of another coyote, it’s usually
the sound of a wounded or scared rabbits.
The shooter should be brought up on charges of involuntary manslaughter.
The number 1 rule of hunters:
Be sure of your target.
PS....I’ve killed over 100 coyotes using
a game call, I’d hate to think I was in
someone’s crosshairs.
Make sure to get the latest AR-M-AK version ;^D
Sounds like the illegitimate love child of an AR and an AK. I'll have to check it out.
Actually, that’s Rule 4
The Four Rules
1. The gun is always loaded
2. Don’t point any gun at anything you do not wish to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Identify your target and know what lies beyond.
"..You dont call coyotes in with the call or sound of another coyote, its usually the sound of a wounded or scared rabbits.."
It's called locating. Also done with sirens and other loud sounds that tend to get a response from coyote. So yes we do use recorded coyote calls. They are territorial and will investigate a strange pack in their territory. Especially if combined with prey distress calls to mimic a successful hunting pack.
That reminds me it's about time to break out the FoxPro again. Got a lotta sausage already. d;^)
“Know your target and beyond” is obviously something this person was not disciplined to practice.
The shooter is one of the reasons I stopped hunting years ago - too many idiots and a couple almost shot me...
There ya go!!
I stand corrected. I was taught to
hunt coyotes using only the wounded
rabbit calls. Have also used dogs,
but that’s a different kind of hunt
altogether.
Still sad this hunter had to lose
his life because of another person’s
bad decision.
They’re all rule no.1 when it comes
to responsible use of a weapon.
Unfortunate that stupidity isn’t a charge they can tack on to the manslaughter charge.
Follow the Four Rules, and they will keep you safe. Ignore any one of the Four Rules at your peril.
