My daughter and I were listening to a bunch of varying music on this pretty afternoon while out and about. Some Beatles thrown in, too, as we are both fans.

I was reminded of this video I came across a few months ago. I have just about zero musical ability, but I enjoy music hugely, and I also enjoy watching about music talk. I find this video fun and interesting.

“Never ever say you’ve given up the guitar for good!”

No, not totally. But as Harry Callahan said, ‘a man has got to know his limitations’. Besides, there’s always the banjo and mandolin. ;)

3 chords.

You clearly have no clue about music.

SRV makes my orbs leak when I listen to “Little Wing” pure perfection...beats Jimi IMHO.

Been watching Mike’s videos for a while. I generally pick one or two techniques to work on then come back another time rather than try to digest the whole thing at once.

Check out Tim Pierce’s videos, also very good.

Thanks for the heads up on the other guy. I don’t play, but I love to watch those kind of videos...big names and average guys.

Absolutely! lol... I guess I over reacted a bit, huh?

Harry Callahan is right and I confess that I did give it up in frustration for a while sorting that out.

But nowadays I just like practicing. I'm not having nearly as much fun as Tommy has playing guitar, but it's fun. And YouTube videos are patient teachers.

I am going to do some YouTube vids one of theses days.
There is going to be playing, no talking.
I need to know what equipment I need. (Besides guitars)

Not sure what equipment, but you could probably post a thread here, and I bet someone would know. Or ask those guys that do similar on YT.

I attended the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society’s meeting in 1998 and Tommy Immanuel and Chet Atkins came in the lounge where I was sitting with a guitar and began practicing and discussing what they were to play for the gig on Saturday night. There was not five of us in the room. They went over what they were to play and I just sat there astounded...they asked me if I wanted to join them...no way and just shook my head. That was my defining moment with a guitar.

you’re welcome.

it’s interesting. i play some of the more complicated songs differently then he does, because one, we have to fit the songs to our vocalists (key, etc); two, i have my own style and use my personal technique to learn the songs from the record quickly; and three, we like to cover songs adding our own touches and maybe changing the style to suit us: for instance Norwegian Wood—great song! but in the video he’s got their technique down so perfect; it’s wonderful and instructive to see it done almost exactly as they conceived and executed it in the studio. how do i know that? from the sound of the riffs he’s producing. it’s exact in my ear to the released recordings.

Wow, you win! I can't touch that, but my mind will be coming back to your story again and again, so thank you!

You know, I like to think that we're all just people, God's creation and all of that, but I would have had trouble just stringing words together coherently in that situation, let alone playing guitar.

Never got into Belew but I was a fan of Fripp with King Crimson before Belew joined.
