“You must be 7 ft. tall! How many cruise ships have you been on?”

Have you ever been on a stateroom balcony?

We spend about 100 days a year in balconys on cruise ships.

Exactly...you would have to work at doing something stupid to do such a thing.

Gene pool working itself out!

Alcohol or a lover’s quarrel or both.

I have friends that went on one of the River Cruises in Europe last fall. They are ALL major partiers, so to save $, they bought a, ‘Silver Package’ which supplies you with all the booze you can drink all day long, all through the cruise.

Nothing will top this. 70,000 Tons of Metal. Basically a week-long bender of heavy metal and alcohol. I will go aboard some day. I can't imagine the amount of alcohol consumed on the ship.

Probably not enough considering the amount of bacteria and germs contained in that confined space.

Bacteria in general?

Wife and I are avid cruisers but have never nor will we ever sail on a Carnival ship. Everyone we know who has taken a Carnival cruise describes nothing but a floating drunk fest. We did take a Norwegian cruise several years ago which was a Flogging Molly Celtic punk music extravaganza where the bands and the passengers fought to see who could drink the most whiskey but no one was injured and there were no fights. Neither of us drink alcohol and we both had a wonderful time. The Carnival experience sounds like a couple of thousand of New Year’s Eve neophytes getting stupid.

They probably leave port with the ballast tanks filled with booze. When the tank becomes empty they fill it with water.

“I’ll go out on a limb here and say there was alcohol involved.”

Well, naturally: it’s a Carnival cruise ...

Sailed on Royal Caribbean and Holland America. I experienced nothing but a good time. Holland America to Alaska on the inside passage was most grand. The vast majority of passengers on both were our ages, 50 plus years and very nice people. I much enjoyed having a drink with them at the bars and just talking. I would never take a cruise with an open unlimited bar. Stay away from Carnival if you are old!

ps
I love seafood. The Holland America Cruise to Alaska had seafood in an extreme excess. I loved it. They also had all other meat dishes that you would want. I ate salmon prepared raw, smoked, baked etc at every meal, even breakfast. Salmon was just one of their many seafood delights. I recommend Holland America highly. Royal Caribbean is also good, but I like Holland America more.

Both lines also have available formal dinners if you want this. Their dinners were most excellent but to be honest I preferred the buffet as there was a greater selection and it was of high quality also. However it was pleasant to dress up once or twice to a formal dinner.

Forgot to add, that on Holland America we had “high tea” in the early afternoon. This was most pleasant, with coffee or tea and elegant pastries served at a table in the restaurant. It was most civilized.

My last cruise was last month and I remember the strange feeling in my stomach as I leaned against our balcony rail.

That was a tapeworm.

Agreed. We mostly cruise on Royal, but did do a Carnival once. It wasn’t THAT much different.

I’m 6 foot tall, exactly. EVERY external rail I have ever seen was at least 4 feet high. One could climb over it. But you’re never going to “fall” unless you’re doing something really stupid.
