It must’ve been a big problem, because there is no way that NASA would have terminated the astronaut status of the first proposed female black astronaut for the space station and less it was very serious.

A black congresswoman decided that she wanted the seat instead?

Yup.

I'm still surprised the racists(ahem) did it. Someone speculated yesterday that the only acceptable reason would be that she's pregnant. Replacing her with a Muslim is acceptable too.

I think NASA just bumped her from the crew. They didn’t kick her out of the astronaut corps. This could be something simple like she’s been exposed to a childhood disease. Remember the chickenpox scare that got the the command module pilot bumped from Apollo 13?

I will admit that the longer NASA refrains from making a fuller explanation the more likely that it is something else. They shouldn’t leave an astrounaut’s reputation hanging out there for something minor.

She had already told Sheila Jackson-Lee that she'd get 'the flag' when they got there.

They should talk her into going anyway if she’s pregnant.

Probably health related. Charlie Duke caught the measles when he was slated for a mission; they put him back in the rotation for 16 which he made with the lunar rover.

#MeToo moment?
I know, I know.
Idle speculation, but what else do we have to work with?

Saw this yesterday. I can only conclude that racis’ CINC ordered her off the mission. Uppity or something. Liblogic 101.

She was bumped from her seat in favor of a true rocket scientist Sheila Jackson Leigh. If it were not for the other astronauts that would be one I would have hoped got lost in space.

When ever something like this happens, I can’t stop thinking about my friend at NUSC who was bumped from USS Thresher’s last dive.
