The Refs Shockingly Bailed Out the Patriots
New York Post ^ | January 14, 2018 | Mark Cannizzaro

The Titans — and the officiating crew — played right into the hands of the Patriots in Saturday night’s 35-14 rout of Tennessee in the AFC divisional playoff game at Gillette Stadium.

The 14-3 Patriots, as defending Super Bowl champions, shouldn’t need such help. Not that they were turning it away or complaining.

The first questionable call that went against the Titans came in the second quarter on a third-and-4 play from the Tennessee 27-yard line. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota connected with former Jets receiver Eric Decker on a pass that appeared to give Tennessee a first down to keep the drive alive.

Why is it shocking? Gooodell has always been the Patriots 12th man. In the last four or five weeks, he's put his finger on the scale to blatant degree.

I didn’t see the game, but winning by that large of a margin can hardly be blamed on the referees.

After the way the refs handed the national title to Bama on Monday night, I question all officiating. What a mess.

The NFL is a lot like Olympic Figure Skating in terms of questionable judging and trashy participants. The main difference is that Figure Skating has more clubbing of knee caps.

Goodwill might like the Krafts, but the is no love loss between many of the players and coaches with Goodell.

In New England, Roger Goddell is more despised than Kim Jun Un.

As a Bills fan, the Patriots have been getting the sweet side of ref calls since Brady’s been there.

I watched the whole game and didn't see any egregiously bad calls.

Near the end a couple of non-catches by the Titans were declared catches so they could save face with a last minute touchdown.

So if anything it went both ways.

By and large the playoffs this year have been a big disappointment. Very little scoring. Lots of field goals.

I was just glad to see a team actually put together a series of plays that ended in a touchdown. A relatively unique experience this post-season.

It's ridiculous. Kraft knew that Goodell HAD to proceed with Defategate, or lose his job, after already being known as a Kraft toady. After, Goodell covered up the videotape cheating and other things, when Deflategate came out, the other owners were furious. If Goodell hadn't pursued it vigorously, he would have lost his job. For Kraft, the penalty was worth it to keep his asset in charge of the league.

The knew NFL pass catch rules have been used as a tool to benefit the Patriots.

Remember, in 2007, Goodell called of the investigation of the Patriots and destroyed all the evidence.

Just like the NCAA committee bailing out the SEC two years in a row by screwing over the best team in the Big10.

New York sports journalist... The only sports writers on earth who can’t recognize that getting your team to the AFC Championship game 7 years in a row has absolutely nothing to do with refs or luck.

The Patriots are freaking awesome. PERIOD!

Oh... And by the way. Belichick isn’t going to New York and neither is Josh McDaniels.

I believe the number was 8.

It was 8 times that the Patriots’ defense sacked Mariota during the game. A couple of questionable calls don’t account for that level of imbalance. there may have been a few instances of refereeing favoritism but it definitely wasn’t a bail-out.

Maybe not.

But it was an obvious attempt to maximize the Pats’ chances.
Classic fix - make the dubious call at a critical juncture in the first half, so you can’t be accused on overt cheating.

Do you realize in was 4th and 4, and the refs called illegal motion on the field? Then, after a video review (I had no idea this was reviewible - never seen it before!) the CHANGED THE CALL to encroachment. Who ever heard of that?

Whereupon, the Pats drive the length of the field to effectively put the game away in the first half. Created a turnover out of thin air - the video did not indicate encroachment.

Full disclosure - I hate the F-ing Patriots.

I will argue that the NFL Officials have targeted Gronkowski for absurd penalties many times. Pass interference called instantly, often before it was even evident if it was a run play. The NFL is a bad joke, and among professional sports of my familiarity, the least 'professional' of all.

Don't know about this year however, because I mostly skipped the Season once it was clear that the NFL would not properly deal with the Scum who took pay while insulting our Flag.

Thanks nickcarraway. I saw bits and pieces of the game, and in the early going was pleased at how the Titans were faring. But the fact is, the Patriots are more like what the NFL will be after it is all robot players. One of the NE coordinators may be Detroit's next head coach.
