‘Jeopardy!’ on hiatus after host Alex Trebek has brain surgery

LOS ANGELES — Taping of the game show "Jeopardy!" has been suspended briefly while host Alex Trebek recovers from surgery to remove blood clots from his brain, Trebek and the show's producer said Thursday.

Trebek, 77, who has hosted the quintessential American quiz for more than 33 years, said Thursday that he was diagnosed with the blood clots, a condition called subdural hematoma, in December after he suffered a bad fall in October.

In a video from his home that was posted on the show's official website, Trebek downplayed the operation as "a slight medical problem" and said he hoped to resume taping "very, very soon."

Sony Pictures Entertainment, which produces the program, said in a statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Dec. 15 and underwent surgery the next day.

"He is expected to make a full and complete recovery," the company said. "Alex spent Christmas at home with his family, and he will return to the Jeopardy! studio for taping in mid-January."

Like many other syndicated game shows, "Jeopardy!" is taped months in advance, so Sony said it had plenty of unaired episodes already in the can. It said the only change in its schedule would be to delay the show's annual college championship to April.

I wish him well, but I hope they also remove the Clot of Haughty Arrogance. I mean, the guy has the answers in his f’n hand. He doesn’t need to shame his contestants over it.

Nothing is better than the Wolf Blitzer show - get well soon, Alex Trebek

A perfect example of CNN “journalists” and the “information” they give to liberals

We DVR this every day. Glad he will be back. I cannot imagine anyone taking his place on this show.

I mean, the guy has the answers in his f’n hand. He doesn’t need to shame his contestants over it.

I remember when he was the game show host for "High Rollers" with Ruta Lee. His persona was completely different on that show. The original Jeopardy! featured the great Art Fleming, who was always composed and professional. I remember they did a "Behind the Scenes" at the original show, and yes, they actually had a man behind the big board pulling the cards out, and they showed him to us! In some ways, TV was a lot more fun then.

“...but I hope they also remove the Clot of Haughty Arrogance.”

You don’t want to mispronounce a word or get the incorrect intonation in front of him...’cause he’ll sure correct you.

I wonder how many hours he spends in front of his dressing room mirror pronouncing upcoming words with just the right accent?

He reminds me of my lib-left sister. She enjoys throwing foreign words into conversations to prove how smart and cultured she is. Tickles me because we were both born in the same slum.

Jeopardy and Sayjack’s show are the only two shows I can think of that I’d never worry about the kids watching (except for Mr. Rogers type of shows. I wouldn’t want my kids to be watching Sesame street today.

Poor, poor Wolfie.

I still have my offer out if CNN has to close their doors. I will take Wolf in as a pet. I have a cat that also is intellectually challenged. I promise to take very good care of him. I’ll even build him a little play studio and comb his beard and let him play with microphones.

Trebek had been hosting a music program for the CBC in his native Canada when High Rollers went into production.

That show was shot in an “in the round” theater, so they were unable to use cue cards. They tested a number of hosts on their ability to memorize the entire 60 minutes of material.

Trebek was the guy who passed that test.

You’d need a cage and a noise-maker to drown out his liberal stupidity!!

The room would be soundproofed but I’d open it often to hear. It would be so damn cute, once he’s not actually given a real platform to read crap from.

And I’d invite John King over sometimes to sholder shake him like he almost did election night. My fave moment of that wonderful night.

“WOLF!!! THERE ARE NO MORE VOTES!!!”
