Typical oversaturated chain that puts quantity of locations over quality and exlusiveness. I bought a sub from Firehouse Subs and it puts it to shame. Even Jimmy John's, Jersey Mike's and Cousins are way better.

In my town there is a Subway in the local Wal-Mart, across the very same parking lot is a stand alone Subway. There are two other Subways on the other side of town. Total population is around 30,000.

Their meats aren't even real meat. The Salami, Ham, and Roast Beef are all turkey-based by-product.
Also, their 9-grain wheat bread (which I used to buy for the tuna subs) is high in fat and even worse than the regular bread.
People will pay a premium for a good meal. When you advertise something cheap people will continue to expect that or else they'll walk. I've gone to Firehouse Subs or Jimmy John's and never looked back. Way superior than Subway.

I’ll buy a $5 sub but, not one today for $8.

That’s not what hurts business. Selling crap sandwiches is what hurts business. Sell the best sandwiches you can make and people will be lined up out the door, and you don’t need a franchise for that.

I have never gotten a really good sub at Subway.
When we lived in Tulsa in the early 70s there was a local store called “Little Lannies”. Maybe once a month my wife and I would get a roast beef sub.
They were great but probably not good for you. Lots of grease or something similar.

"Subway's Cold Cut Combo are turkey-based meats of ham, bologna and salami," it read. "They are made from turkey, like turkey hot dogs or turkey burgers. The Cold Cut Combo already includes the salami as part of the formula. It may look different from pork-based salami." https://www.thestreet.com/story/12789973/1/what-businesses-wont-let-you-buy.html

Cousins is stupid. Their double-sized sandwich costs exactly twice as much. Most other chains give you some sort of discount on a larger sub.
Every decent sized town has at least one good Jewish and one good Italian deli. There is never any need to go to a Subway, Jersey Mikes, Cousins, etc.
If you need to save money then really how much effort does it take to make yourself a decent sandwich in the morning to take with you to lunch?
Hint: Keep all the veggies separate in a plastic bag so they don't make the sandwich mushy.

I know of a location like that. The one in the Walmart was
some other eatery which closed and Subway came in.

Their meats aren't even real meat. And they don't give you much of it.
