Texas Congressman Runs What Former Aides Call a Hostile Workplace

WASHINGTON — When Lauren Greene, a former communications director for Representative Blake Farenthold, sued him claiming sexual harassment, among her complaints was that he “disclosed that a female lobbyist had propositioned him for ‘a threesome.’”

Mr. Farenthold, in legal documents, said that Ms. Greene had it wrong. The woman wasn’t a lobbyist, he said.

As allegations of sexual misconduct rock Capitol Hill — three lawmakers announced their resignations last week alone — Mr. Farenthold, Republican of Texas, stands out as the survivor. He was sued over accusations of sexual harassment three years ago, paid out an $84,000 settlement, financed by taxpayers, and has an open Ethics Committee investigation into his behavior. Yet only a few Republicans have called for his resignation

Sounds like the GOP needs to toss Farenthold overboard.

Enough trial by newspaper already.

The Mediacracy has controlled us through media assassinations for 50 years.

Blake has a couple of challengers in the Republican primary. Today was the last day to file. The son of Blake Farenthold’s business manager for his private business holdings announced over the weekend!

Farenthold had already paid off a staffer with $84k in taxpayer money.

Well, I just realized (after almost 70 years), that my Dad molested my Mom.

My Mom was not named Mary, and I am here, thus the proof.

Will Megyn call me for a TV appearance?

Blake rode in on the Teanami wave.

He needs to be thrown overboard for using my tax $$ to pay off his indiscretions.

I hope he didn’t make any waitress sandwiches or play hide-the-cigar with any 24-year-old interns.

He Fired Her, she sought revenge.
I believe him, not her. This current environment happens to be the environment for opportunists.
Blake did not want to Settle, Govt Lawyers did and Insurance paid her ... Govt Insurance, not $ for $ Tax Payer $ Govt Insurance paid.
Yes Taxpayers paid for the Insurance but... we pay for ALL of the critters, not just Blake.

Last Friday, media outlets began rehashing a 2015 story about a lawsuit that was settled with a former employee of my office. As those of you who know me or who have been following this case closely know, many of those stories were inaccurate or incomplete. The independent, bipartisan Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) thoroughly investigated this matter and held 6-0 that: "...there is not a substantial reason to believe that Representative Farenthold sexually harassed or discriminated against Complainant, or engaged in an effort to intimidate, take reprisal against, or discriminate against Complainant for opposing such treatment, in violation of House rules and federal law." Shortly after that report, there was a mediated settlement agreement where: "...the parties believe that the mediator’s solution saves the parties, and the taxpayers, significant sums that would be expended in further discovery and/or trial. The parties’ settlement expressly provides that both parties deny all liability."

Early on in this matter, I hired my own attorney and was prepared to settle or litigate this matter without using taxpayer funds. I was told by the Office of House Employment Counsel (OHEC) that since I was not personally a party to the suit - as the entity sued was the Office of Representative Farenthold, in actuality the U.S. House of Representatives, the Office of House Employment Counsel would have to represent the office and that a fund created under the Congressional Accountability Act (CAA) must be used to pay any settlement. Despite the findings of OCE and my following of the law in the CAA and House attorneys' advice, I have agreed to repay the amount of the settlement.

Make no mistake, this repayment is not an admission of guilt. I am making it for several reasons, primarily because it feels like the right thing to do. Also, I believe the current system that requires taxpayers to fund secret settlements must be fixed and I cannot be an effective advocate to fix this problem with people saying I benefited from it.

I am also pledging to take a leadership role in reforming an obviously broken system to ensure all employees of Congress can work in an environment free from harassment of any form and ensure that individuals who perpetrate harassment of any kind are exposed and held responsible.

As your member of Congress, I hope to continue this process in a way that is transparent and open. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact my office by calling 361-884-2222, or by sending an email through my website, farenthold.house.gov.

An email from Blakes office.

Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston) runs a hostile workplace.

She’s consistently ranked as the worst Congresscritter to work for.

http://dailycaller.com/2011/03/02/congressional-bosses-from-hell-sheila-jackson-lee/

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas also hands out nicknames to the people who work for her. The Houston Democrat addressed one of her employees as “you stupid mother****er.” And not just once, but “constantly,” recalls the staffer, “like, all the time.”

...Of the scores of Jackson Lee staffers contacted by The Daily Caller, only McQueery offered an affirmative defense of the congresswoman’s management techniques. “A lot of people just did not know how to go, and say, ‘hey, that’s inappropriate,’” McQueery said.

...Nathan Williams, who quit his job when Jackson Lee threw a cell phone at him, told the Houston Chronicle in 2002, “I don’t think I ever got home before 11 o’clock at night.”

...Her former drivers say the congresswoman demanded they run red lights and drive on highway shoulders around traffic. This caused at least one accident. As Jackson Lee was yelling at a staffer to drive faster she turned too sharply, smashing the side of her car into a wall.

..Not surprisingly, Jackson Lee has one of the highest staff turnover rates in Washington. Over the last ten years, at least 39 staffers have left within one year. Over that time, Lee has employed at least nine chiefs of staff, eight legislative directors, and 18 schedulers or executive assistants, according to records of federal disclosure forms published by the website Legistorm. Nine staffers left within two months, 25 within 6 months.
