We actually have black helicopters land at our airport. They are Blackhawks. I think they use them for practicing night operations in the mountains here. Which is why there are black with no insignia at all.

Would a defunct microwave oven chassis and case, with boards, coils, transformers, etc. removed, and then properly grounded, function as an effective Faraday Cage?

They can track you, but can the government record you through the battery?

Sometimes as battery is just a battery.

They were capable of tracking any cell phone 20 years ago as long as the battery was in it,regardless of whether it was on or not.

I do know that every electronic device has a unique signature and if there is electrical current it can be Tracked with highly sophisticated equipment.

Another reason why I do NOT use a cell phone-—Have only 1976 & 1979 GM vehicles & don’t have any of the in house items people ask questions......

I also spend cash whenever possible. The govm’t doesn’t need to track my purchases for everything.

I got a ‘Census Survey’ in the mail a couple of days ago. I don’t know if it was legit or not. Wanted me to ‘fill in a survey about my ‘household activities’.

When I opened the envelope, it turned out they wanted me to go to a ‘website’ and fill in the survey. A process they indicated would take ‘only about 40 minutes’. I am on a land line. Anything that would take 40 minutes on hi speed internet would take me HOURS. Also- IF this isn’t a legal government website, I am opening up my computer to who? Also- quite a presumption to think that I even had a computer at all, since I live rural in N Nevada & there are lots of other retirees out here and many do NOT have a computer at all. I kept the info, but did NOT do what it asked. Envelope stated I would be fined $300 if I didn’t comply.....

BUT—It was NOT sent to my name-—only ‘resident’ at this address. ANYTHING I have received from the Census Bureau-—in 10 year cycles—has always had my name on it.

In 2000, I got the long form census papers & I filled in only my name-age-and the number of persons in the household. Everything else I wrote N O Y D B—None Of Your Damn Business—on each page. I got a nasty gram letter & another form demanding that I fill it out or they would send a PERSON to my house to get the info they wanted. I didn’t answer & never saw a ‘Person’ —That residence was also rural in N Calif.

Whole thing is very suspicious. We are told everyday about phisching against us...this was just suspicious.

Do you know anyone who got this mailing???

I received that last year. I ignored it.

Yesterday I received another stating that I will be interviewed four times this year and four times the following year.

I will keep my door closed.

That's crazy talk!

And by the way: You really shouldn't slouch so when you sit there at your computer! And your constant nose-picking is disgusting! We surveillance technicians are people, too, you know!

So much snark in this thread.

There are two ways you can be tracked via your phone.

1) if it is a GPS device, a lot of apps use your position to work. For example, I was at a local mexican restaraunt last night. My google ap on my cellphone popped up....asking for info about the place. Kinda spooky. Furthermore, your minute by minute location gets stored by some apps. Some of those apps communicate with the government.

2) If you have an old cell phone, or a new one with GPS turned off, your location can be determined by “triangulation”. Your cellphone pings all the cell towers around you saying “here I am. Any calls?” Your position can be found by your distance from the various towers.

Methods 1 and 2 can be defeated by turning off your phone and removing the battery.....unless you have one of those models with a capacitor that keeps certain functions like GPS active for a long time after you remove the battery.

The battery only helps with the tracking insofar as to provide power for certain functions.

Hope this helps.

Here’s a 2014 article titled “How the NSA can ‘turn on’ your phone remotely”
http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/06/technology/security/nsa-turn-on-phone/index.html

Around 2002 the FCC required all cell phones to have GPS tracking and I imagine it wasn’t for nice reasons.

Some apps intrude on your privacy.
Here’s a website that assigns a privacy grade to apps.
