Boycott AMAZON on Thanksgiving Day
People who work at Amazon | 11/5/2017 | self

Posted on 11/05/2017 9:37:28 PM PST by budj

Butthead bezos and the offices will be closed on Thanksgiving, celebrating with their families. The warehouses will all be open and fully staffed all day and night - no celebration for the working people.

Boycott that a$$hole so he doesn't make a dime on Thanksgiving Day. Celebrate with your family, not online shopping.

If people want to work and earn money on Thanksgiving, I say let them work. It’s their business, not mine. They need money, not an online ‘Compassion Tweet & Smiling Emoji from me.

Well said. I am not sure I could improve upon your post. :-)

Lots of people have to work on holidays which is a drag but it beats the alternative I guess.

As the Capitalist in me...

If the workers don’t like it, work for somebody else. Chances are they’re getting paid time-and-a-half. If working for Amazon is really that bad, they’ll have a lot of employee turnover and many employees who are working there for Thanksgiving this year won’t be working there next year as a vote of their own free will.

Bezos is an ass but why pay $8 for a product locally when I can buy the exact same thing, delivered the next day, for $3.49 total, from Amazon.

Most people forget about that part. We just take it for granted that the safety net will always be there if you’re near a big city.

I’ve always heard that medical interns are expected to work insanely long hours per shift. Why? Their instructors will say, “Because I had to do it too, and that’s the way it’s always been!” Hopefully, that old way is changing. I don’t want a Nurse Practitioner diagnosing my problems if they have been up for 23 hours without real sleep.

I don’t see the difference with any other company out there today. My boss always got xmas and turkey day off while I worked over a 30 year period. As I got seniority, I started to get xmas off if i wanted it. I got double time and a half for working holidays so it was primo days for me until I had kids and needed xmas. The rest of them, I worked. Nothing unusual about Amazon unless you compare to the post office.

Every single day, 24/7/365, there are 45 Missile Combat Crews (90 officers) locked behind six-ton blast doors 65 feet underground in the Launch Control Centers (LCCs). Missileers have been doing that duty since the very early 1960s and those LCCs have been manned continuously since that time. During the height of the Cold War there were 154 crews on continuous Alert.

They are still to this day the very pointy end of our nuclear spear and their duty knows no holiday. There are also all the submariners on patrol in the SSBNs who perform the Navy's portion of nuclear deterrence.

Remember these people while giving thanks during the holiday season.

As a young adult, I worked Thanksgivings in a restaurant. But at least I was serving turkeys...

For some, work is family. But others should be afforded the time off without consequence.

Bezos is an idiot for WAPO, but not Amazon.

“Butthead bezos and the offices will be closed on Thanksgiving, celebrating with their families. The warehouses will all be open and fully staffed all day and night - no celebration for the working people.”

your post is complete bullshit: millions of people work extra days and extra hours during the Christmas shopping season. FedEx, UPS & USPS people hire thousands of extra people to work many of those extra hours. Pretty much all retail brick and mortar stores and all online stores and fulfillment centers do the same thing during the shopping season, also hiring tens of thousands of extra workers and paying overtime and holiday pay to current workers.

For most retailers, Christmas shopping is what makes or breaks their entire year in terms of profitability, and they spend tons of extra money on existing and temp employees to help them pull it off.

There’s nothing particularly special about how hard amazon employees have to work during the holiday season. Furthermore, it appears amazon must treat their employees decently given the relatively high rankings they give amazon on glassdoor.com:

Lots of people have to work on Thanksgiving. Maybe plenty of the warehouse are not working either. This is a stupid thing to post. If you don’t work in a business where Thanksgiving is a holiday and you want it to be a holiday, get into another line of business. It’s not complicated, and extremely petty to complain about as a “big issue”. You go ahead and boycott Amazon - good luck with that.

One thing I did not see is whether or not the warehouse workers volunteered to work on Thanksgiving because they get premium pay. Any number of people will do so if they get time and a half or double time. If they did volunteer there should be no problem here.
