Calling all Freeper Motorheads! Have y'all ever owned a vehicle that you could just swear was possessed on some level? Was there some puzzling quirk that vexed you, and seemed to defeat every attempt to remedy? Let's talk vehicles that seemed to be possessed.

I had a Ford Tempo that went through 4 fuel pumps in a year. Thing would die after driving a few miles.

Then a Buick Regal that had an electrical problem. It would set off the security features while I was driving, lights flickering off an on or shut down entirely, leaving me to coast off of the road. Other times, it would trigger the security features starting it and lock it up. No going anywhere for 5 or so minutes. Took a couple of years to track that sucker down. Some crack in a line would get damp. I had it in for repairs at GM dealer, they had it for a week, works just fine. We drove it less than a block and it turned off. Walked back: come get it and fix it.

Then a Buick LaCrosse that I only had for 16 months before I had to give it back to GM. In that 16 months, it was not in my possession for 6 months.

Now happily in a BMW.

I asked because late in the afternoon and twilight I have a problem with seeing burgundy color vehicles.

I can look right through them. Pulling out and looking both ways then double checking suddenly there’s a burgundy car I didn’t see the first time.

So did the cloaking device keep you from getting tickets in it?

Now that you mention it, in four years I never got a ticket on it. Maybe there were some benefits after all.

My Dad bought a new Dodge cargo van in 1980 for the family business. It was a six cylinder, no AC or radio. It wouldn’t pull a greasy string out of a hogs ass! It had absolutely no power whatsoever. He took it to the dealer and local mechanics, they rebuilt the carburetor, they replaced gas filter, air filter etc... Nothing worked, it just had a bad case of the can’t hardly’s and don’t wanna’s when you hit the gas pedal.

He finally sold it after a few years to a guy who had bought several of our companies used vans and Dad told him upfront, it has no power whatsoever and the guy said I work on vehicle from time to time, I’ll chance it. Six months after Dad sold it he ran into the guy and he tells him I figured out what was wrong with that van, a solenoid on the engine block was bad. $25 for the part and I put it on, runs like a scalded cat now. Dad just shook his head and said well glad someone got it to run right. He never bought another Dodge product and won’t to this day consider anything from Chrysler period.
