Navy Man Wins Jeopardy With Winnings of $1
10/18/17 | Originalbuckeye

Did anyone see Jeopardy yesterday? The 3rd appearance of ‘Manny’, a Navy guy, ended with him winning the game with only a dollar. He had only $2,000 going into the final (it had been a rough game for him, he had done much better his first two games). The two challengers were tied with $12,400 each. The final question was really difficult and no one got the right answer. The first answer revealed was Manny’s wrong answer, and he lost $1,999 of his money, leaving him with a dollar. The two challengers bet all their money and lost it all, ending with both having no money. It was priceless!

Most of the ‘special’ tournaments on Jeopardy, we find the questions too easy. But we always LOVE the Celebrity Jeopardy weeks. So entertaining. So fun to see celebs and ‘news’ people embarrass themselves....especially the ‘holier than thou’ ones.

This was the Final Jeopardy question yesterday. Today hasn’t aired yet here either.

She WAS obnoxious. With all the fringe people on TV being made to feel important, too many think everything they embrace is the most important issue ever. Meh.

I actually think Jeopardy is rigged to some extent.

There are all kinds of ways they can tip the scales without going to the point of giving the answers.

I had a friend in grad school who was a jeopardy fanatic and had applied several times. He also thought they did some things to help certain candidates.

I think Europeans were taught more World geography than we were in the schools, while growing up in the 60’s.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm sure he learned more European geography than we did. Growing up the 60's and 70's United States myself, I think we tended to do more on US geography than he did.

In school, I could (and still can) place all 50 states and name their capital cities on a map with only the state boundaries showing. Doubt I could do more than about 60-70% of the countries in Europe, though. And I consider myself somewhat of a geography geek!

That was one of the funny skits in recent years. We used to record SNL, but gave up a couple of years ago. Not funny anymore.

He gets to play in the next show, right? So that dollar could go a long ways.

His strategy wasn’t bad if he was comfortable with the category. If he thinks he has more than a 50 percent chance of knowing the right answer, he bet enough to maximize his potential winnings while leaving him the out of still winning if everyone else got it wrong.

I agree. If a contestant gets an answer right, it seems they have a ‘signaling button’ advantage for the next question. And it seems sometimes that the categories are skewed toward specific challengers. I remember a while back, the final question was something obscure relating to Europe (the answer was Bloemfontein and I cannot remember the question) and one of the contestants had lived near the place that was the answer. I felt bad for the other contestants. My husband and son tried out for a ‘father/son tag team’ opportunity several years ago and they passed the test. They even got to the screen test part, but then Jeopardy decided not to do the father/son tag team week. But they had fun that day they spent at the studio.

Yes, there are going to be some coincidences but they do seem to skew the questions/answers sometimes to favor a certain minority.

Yeah, a Navy guy should have gotten that one.

I love Tibet! Hundreds of miles from any seacoast.

I am a woman and I absolutely feel they skew many of the questions toward woman.

My nephew is Manny, the Navy guy. I don’t have a TV so don’t watch Jeopardy. Please explain, since Manny won with $1 will he be back on the show again.

The whole family is proud of Manny. His father worked for the State Department and Manny has lived all over the world. He’s a graduate of the Naval Academy, real sharp young man.

I don’t know why Manny said Iraq, instead of Iran. Even I know the Caspian Sea borders Russia so Iraq would be too far to the west.

He will be on today. It hasn’t aired here yet. We were rooting for him as we have Navy people in our family.
