Calling all Freeper gearheads!

What is the most fun that you have ever had in a motor vehicle? Was it a marathon road trip with family or friends? Was is a Saturday afternoon drive along a twisting, winding road? What was it and what was the vehicle?

Did you forget to mention “while at the Drive-In-Movie”?
That’s where most of us spent the evening.

Driving in an MG convertible on a winding road, surrounded by Autumn beauty, and listening to Thunder Road.

Driving home one night back in the late 80s in my ‘71 Spitfire, a jerk in a late 70s Firebird blocked me from changing to the right lane to make a turn to head home. He continued to block me up the road, but I got the jump on him at the next light and took the next turn ... a very sharp s-curve. Fortunately, I had recently installed a performance sway bar on the front of my Spit and was able to take those corners at a pretty high rate of speed and watched in my rear-view as the Bird spun around. Must’ve pissed him off as he began to chase me down. Obviously outmatched by horsepower, I chose the curviest roads back toward my destination and drove them just as fast as I could. Once I got through them, I noticed that the Bird was no longer around. Pretty intense, but dang fun.

Another one was when a friend and I did the NASCAR Experience at Texas Motor Speedway. Very fun! I took the #29 for 8 laps at about 160MPH on a very hot July day. I don’t know how those guys do that at around 200MPH for 500 miles in that kind of heat. Crazy.

Teaching my girlfriend from Japan how to drive. 24 years old, never drove a car in her life. She always wanted to go a lot faster than I thought was safe.

Pedal to the metal in a blown-small-block '33 Willys coupe.
This one was mine a LONG time ago:

Yeah... 1980-whatever with my girlfriend. Were in the back of my 81 Mustang, it’s a hatchback, and we’re parked behind a closed store. After a while, a police car quietly rolls up, turns on the spotlight and all Officer Friendly sees is my rear end in the rear window.

He leaves the spotlight on, we scramble for clothes. Policeman calls for back-up. About 3 other copcars show up, red & blue flashers and spotlights.... Some explaining why were there (like it wasn’t obvious) and we were eventually allowed to go.

Have many other car stories not involving being buck-nekkid, but this one always seems to come to mind first.

Outrunning the cops in a 1963 rambler classic with an inline six was exhilarating. (1971)

Causing a guy in a 1966 GTO with drag slicks to run his car off the road and embed it in an embankment was fun.

Causing a carload of thugs to run off the road, over a curb, stop sign, and parking lot concrete barriers was fun.

The above two was when being chased in a 1972 Vega GT.

Now I drive a Scion FR-S 150 miles every day on my commute, 2/3 of which is on back road twisties where there are no cops but the occasional deer, and I do it on Michelin PSS’s which in essence puts the car on rails. I’ve put 132,000 miles on the car doing that. I have yet to replace the brakes or spark plugs.

I love my commute every day. And I’ve collected some awesome dash cam footage of animals and crashes.

3 different types of experiences.

1st: My buddy had a 68 Camaro. L88 427, Muncie M-22, 12 bolt posi.
Car idled like it was firing on 7 of 8 cylinders. Punch it and it was SCARY fun. Smile on your face either from excitement, fear, or g-forces (I haven't figured yet)

2nd: In 1980 we went to Florida to visit my grandparents at Christmas. A few miles from their house, we got in an accident.
We weren't going to get our car repaired in time to drive home. So, my grandparents bought the car from us and we bought a brand new Pontiac Gran Prix.
Granted, 1980 wasn't GMs stellar acheivement for cars, but for an 18 year old, who got to drive the entire 1200 miles in a brand new car, I couldn't wait to get up in the am, just to drive. Made it a 3 day trip, by making some nice stops along the way.

3rd: The backseat of a '76 Camaro...

This was always my MO, and is to this day. Handling over horsepower. That was fun to read. :)
