From you and others here, I would say it is all about your religious beliefs.

“This dating system was devised in 525 by Dionysius Exiguus of Scythia Minor, but was not widely used until after 800.”

Who was running (controlling) the world then? The Roman Catholic Church.

Again, it is about Religious beliefs.

"Beautiful place - 2000 years ago life was pretty good."

Sure, for the top 10% at most, though this home looks nice enough to be a one-percenter.
Supporting them would be platoons of slaves & hired hands.
Our home-owner was a banker not of noble birth, but prosperous:

Of course, what most people don't know is that this ancient Roman banker was the direct ancestor of a notorious British banco player, whose name can't be revealed, but is sometimes known by the numbers 0 0 7:

Remember: CE = Christian Era. Don’t let them win.

This is how I read it also. Even if the Christian-hating left changed the letters to BE or SE, we would still know tht the event that marks the change from before to after is the birth of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

is that a DirectTV dish ?

All they wanted was to watch the races at the Circus Maximus and the Senate Channel, but were forced to subsidize the bundled Coliseum, too.
