Thanks Tom for many years of great music, not only growing up through the MTV Generation of the early 80’s, but for being a gentleman and a true musician.

I can’t forgive you for “The Postman”, however, I will always treasure every moment that my friends and family shared with you while your Hearbreakers were playing in the background.

My dad taking me to a 6th Grade hoops game listening to Refugee drive up the charts in the back of his Delta 88? Amen.

Singing along with you and the beautiful Stevie Nicks in high school? Love ya man and the band!

I watched and listened to the video of Refugee again and I will say that the Hammond Organ makes this song when it kicks in. Then, it weaves itself through some great percussion and the your soothing, but coarse voice that will never be replicated.

Our children will not know what it is like to live then or look up to a great musician like yourself sir. In my dreams I wish for my kids we will have another Tom Petty come along, however, that age of innocence and just imagining the lyrics you being put into context during my life growing up is so wonderful I had to vent here.

We lost an American Icon, what a beautiful man and great musician.

Icon.

Amen.

Not as much of a rock person. But grew up in 80...I didn’t care much when others passed...Prince etc...but this was different. It did hurt...

I can’t forgive you for “The Postman”

What do you mean by that? I never saw it, but looked it up on IMDB.com. I don't get what you mean.

I watched the Petty documentary on Netflix last night, it’s long (about 4 hours), but worth every minute.

I think I was the only person in America who actually enjoyed that movie.

Been listening to a lot of Petty lately. Also jonesing for a Rickenbacker guitar. I've got nine guitars, no Rics.

First time I saw Petty was on SNL in '79. I was almost 11 and I thought he looked like my older cool cousin. I've been a fan ever since.

I took my mom to see him live at Red Rocks with the Heartbreakers. Must've been 2002. Last concert I ever saw with my mom. She wanted to go because her idol, Jackson Browne was opening. As a guitar nut, I was in heaven. Petty and his band played for about two hours, nothing but hits. You forget how many hit songs that guy wrote! Between him and Mike Campbell, they must've toured with at least 60-70 mostly vintage guitars. They didn't play the same guitar two songs in a row. At the end of each song, they'd take off the guitar they had been playing and strap on something different. What a show!

I’ve been watching it too and it’s very well done. He was a very gifted musician and I learned a few things about him that I never knew.

He will be missed.

I was being sarcastic. Pretty bad movie in my humble opinion that Tom had a minor role in. That’s all.

“I think I was the only person in America who actually enjoyed that movie.”

Oh NO you Not! It is one of the greatest movies of all time. I wouldn’t take advise from a critic who despised it. Riveting and emotional for the entire 3 hours. And a Movie with a great ending for a change. The Tom Petty scene was just a fun moment in the film- That,s all. When you see it for the fist time it is like “Wow” that’s Tom petty. But it was just a minor part in a great movie.

Just watched it, awesome. He never disowvowed himself from his Southern, Floridian roots. Nothing wrong with Jesus.
