The wreck of a German submarine that sank during World War One has been found in the North Sea and officials believe 23 bodies may be inside it.

The type UB-II submarine is said to be in good condition, lying at a depth of 30m (100ft) off the Belgian coast.

"The submarine is in such good condition that we reckon all the bodies are still on board," said West Flanders Governor Carl Decaluwé.

The vessel is thought to have been sunk by a mine.

Mr Decaluwé told reporters on Tuesday that the location of the wreck was being kept under wraps to prevent people going near it and to stop the submarine being looted or damaged.

BBC article ‘we reckon’? I would never believe an Englishman would speak like a Texan.

Boy, this is an interesting find, though.

Probably covered in 10,000 lbs of fishing net.

The Hunley, lost in the Civil War was found in 1995 is only 27 ft of water five miles offshore from Charleston.

The boat went down on a known day, in a known area yet it took 130 years to find.

This U-Boat is an amazing find.

If you look at the photo you may notice how perspective between foreground and background is compressed, evidence that at least a medium telephoto lens may have been used to take the picture. That will, from that angle, make the boat look smaller.

"Hunley, lost in the Civil War was found in 1995 is only 27 ft of water five miles offshore from Charleston"

In 1958 the USAF lost a nuclear weapon off Tybee Island, Georgia (near Savannah) which has never been found.
