Vengeful Jerry Jones now could be Roger Goodell’s downfall
New York Post ^ | September 17, 2017 | Mark W. Sanchez

According to ESPN, Jones has thrust himself into the league’s compensation committee and is holding up talks with Goodell’s new deal. Goodell’s current contract is set to expire in 2019; his new one originally was going to make him the face of the NFL until at least 2024.

The report states that Goodell’s long-term future could be in jeopardy as he faces backlash from Jones — only his latest in-house combatant — following his four-game suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for violating the league’s domestic violence protocol. Jones has stated repeatedly that Elliott did nothing wrong, and the league and player are in a prolonged back-and-forth that likely won’t be settled this season.

If Goodell can try to suspend Elliott and cost him a few game checks, Jones can try to lower Goodell’s bloated salary. Jones has intruded on the six-man compensation committee — which is comprised of chairman Arthur Blank (Falcons), Clark Hunt (Chiefs), Goodell friend-turned-enemy Robert Kraft (Patriots), John Mara (Giants), Bob McNair (Texans) and Art Rooney II (Steelers) — and, if he wants Goodell back at all, he wants to see a few zeroes come off his paycheck.

“This is about money and a guy [Goodell] making way too much money on a grossly stupid contract for the job,” a source said.

Goodell should be paying money to the NFL, not the other way around.

I heard goddell gets something like $20 million a year to oversee the NFL.

Seems like a lot.

I read more than that, more like $40 Million, overpaid no matter how you look at it.

I will say this. Jerry Jones would be a fantastic NFL Commissioner.

“That bastard Goodhell needs to be denutted and then fired.”

Absolutely right. The last straw was him threatening Texas when they were trying to pass the no dudes in the girls bathrooms and showers bill.

Even if they forced Goodell out, the nitwit owners would roll over to left-wing demands and get some pro-flag burning [characterization omitted] jackwad to replace him. Thanks sparklite2.

Godell needs to go. Especially in light of the Kapernick BS.

Commissioner thru 2024 would be hard to stomach. His dictator authority on suspensions and discipline is granted in the CBA with the Union and that has been problematic and that agreement goes thru 2020.

So now Jones wants to rightly make trouble for Godell but only because he is suspending one of his thug star players, thus affecting his team’s competitiveness.

Godell’s mis-handled the Ray Rice punch your girlfriend out in the elevator incident big time, but Elliot suspension is related to a domestic violence incident that occurred before Elliot joined the NFL and was in college and the Police/DA dropped charges due to lack of evidence to prove the assault in Court.

So Godell’s is over reaching a bit suspending one of Jones’s star players.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy

And Deflate-Gate was a unprovable charge that Brady elected not to fight to the SCOTUS as he would likely have won, as league policy procedure and chain of evidence was hopelessly flawed.

I really think the league is a cross-roads.

It's not just Kaepernick and others who refuse to stand for the national anthem. That was when everything boiled over and exposed the league's problems.

The NFL's problems are structural. Parents, with the help of leftists in the media and education, are refusing to let their kids play football.

Cities are cash-strapped. They're not going to pay for a $500 million stadium that becomes obsolete within 20 years. Look how Saint Louis got screwed.

The game itself is too slow, too many rules, and too much celebration.

No to owner/commissioner. Sucked in baseball, would suck in football.

I hold grudges. I’ve hated Jones for years for his firing Tom Landry but I am willing to hate him less and support him in this. Goodell needs to GO and the sooner the better!!!
