For anyone who understands anything about chess, the entire dynamic is based on the principle of power. An expert, with just a quick glance at a board, can immediately determine the essential positions. Now, I ask you, would you rather be labeled as (a) a racist bigot white supremacist; or (b) an anarchist advocating political violence?
Note that proposition A presumes the continuation of protection under the law, including important constitutional rights. Whereas B places one outside the law, and in fact is just another way of defining domestic terrorism.
So, I'll ask the question again, A or B? Those who select B are by its very definition placed in a very precarious position. Now, why are Democrats not only refusing to disavow, but are actively supporting neo-communist groups which advocate the overthrow of the US government?

The chief operators of the DNC know that Trump knows, and is simply biding his time to affect maximum damage. This is going to be a long, drawn out affair until at least next summer, when the Trump DoJ will begin the long awaited patriot offensive.

Send in the opposing extremists, who are established as both violent/provocative and routinely absolved by the major media. Badness will likely ensue. Make a big deal about toppling Confederate statues along with lambasting the WS as “nazis”; leverage both to conflate Trump & conservatives with these “nazis”.
Pretty easy to organize, really. Not hard to add whatever level of conspiratorial horrors you like (depending on how evil & clever you are), or just let violent chaos take its course.
Result is a flanking maneuver, where the indefensible fringe acts badly in a way that can be spun to impugn the Right in general. This opens paths of attack into more acceptable positions, normalizing their demonization.

Meanwhile, "Conservatives" on the radio circuit (except Rush) are all piling on Trump, declaring his statement and news conference as a "meltdown," a "catastrophe," Trump "destroying himself" by having the bad taste to call out the violent left. I will be interested to see the polls next week, and whether the man in the street agrees with all the wizards on the air.
