What's The Story Behind Your FR Handle?
Free Republic ^ | 23 July 2017 | Windy

I've always wondered about the origins and meanings (if any) behind others Freeper handles. Its a quiet Sunday morning, so I thought it would be an interesting topic to start the day.

What's the story behind your handle?

I kind of thought maybe you were a pilot.

A lot of people have thought that, but no, its more of a spiritual thing.

I signed up after the 2000 election- saw the “Sore-Loserman” signs at the Naval Observatory, and looked up the site.

My name comes from a character in The Belgariad series of novels by David Eddings- He was born to be the protector of the main character, and would turn into a large bear whenever the boy was menaced (in the next series of novels, this turned out to be hereditary). Since I am a large, bearish type of guy, and was expecting my first (and only) child at the time, it seemed a good fit. Oh, and I’m a Texan :).
When Obama came along, I thought about changing it, but decided that I wasn’t changing anything for that guy.

Use to enjoy going to see Florida Keys until all the people ruined it.
We would go bar hopping in a boat. Jump from key to key

Tag line was located in a jiffy john when I was working at Ft. Lauderdale airport.

What got me started:

January 26, 1998: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky"

January 27, 1998: "...this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president"

and many other absurd lies of the clintoons which made for a daily sarcastic snort of "no s**t" when I watched the news. When I signed up after lurking for a while I felt it was self-identifying act to join a federal watchlist, but hey, the more the merrier!

It was the character I played in my first college play.

I first became active as "Political Junkie" on the short-lived forum at Newsmax, where people wrote about the daunting FreeRepublic.

When Newsmax announced they were closing their forum, I took the leap over to FreeRepublic. "Political Junkie" was already taken but appeared to be a dead ID as it had no posts, so I took "Political Junkie Too." If "Political Junkie" had been an active ID, I would have chosen something else.

Very simple. My home state and my name. Been using it for a quarter century now.

Proof again, of the many kindred spirits here 😇 We will definitely add Ulmius Americanus to our old tree wish list - with the American Chestnut - http://carltonhobbs.us/garden-diary-american-chestnut-trees-at-carlton-hobbs/ Hope the link works, and sorry for the very minor thread hijack 😏 Tatt

this is a fascinating topic. Great post

Thanks. The thread sure has " blowed up real good." ;-)

I had the idea to post this months ago, but never found a quiet morning to do so. Today was that day. Glad you're enjoying it.

My Gran Torino was great. It would float like a hovercraft at 75. It had a sporty bench/bucket seat in the front with a fold up arm rest. Great for road trips and the drive in movie.

I been on here since 1999 and I decided to re-sign with DeplorableAmerican 1776

Great new handle, but I just checked and it appears that you lost your original 'born on' date. Jim has the ability to preserve that and your posting history.

You might ask him to see if he can retrieve them from FR's memory and link them to your new name.

I’m a full-time blacksmith.

I'm a tin knocker. Rain gutters, mostly.

The 45th Thunderbirds and Oklahoma is my DNA. My family moved across the Red River into the Indian Territory in the 1890s and my Dad was born in Durant. In regards to the 45th, I sincerely commend the 45th Infantry Division Museum at Oklahoma City for anyone with interest in military equipment and history. It is one of the largest such ‘private’ military museums in the nation.

He may have died as the oldest WW2 Thunderbird in 2013 at age 95. He joined as a ‘recruit’ (no rank) in 1938 because, in his own words, he needed the weekend and summer camp pay to live. He got to E5 in 1941 and was told by his CO on a Friday in October ‘41 that he was going to be a butter bar the next Monday. His protest of this undesired ‘promotion’ had the CO utter the family famous clincher; “I wasn’t asking, I am TELLING!” He retired out of the Regular Army as a full Colonel in 1965 having served in Korea and Vietnam as well.

My tag comes from my love of history. I regard the year 1066 as second in importance only to the Birth at Bethlehem. A tiny change of events in that year of 2 invasions of Britain could have made such a difference in subsequent history.

Mine comes from those supermarket laser scanners.

Boop...boop... boop... as the food goes by.

It was an inside joke. I would make the sound at the same time as the cashier, and irritate my girlfriend.

I wish I could change it.

People think I'm Betty Boop, but I'm a guy.

Plus, there is a "bboop" who posts here.

Great back story on your handle.

I’ve been in love with the B-17 since I was a kid. Don’t know why, but to me, she’s the most magnificent bird that’s ever flown.
