The nursery in Amy Fabbrini and Eric Ziegler's home is filled with unread children's books and unworn baby clothes. A Winnie the Pooh blanket lies untouched inside a crib where a child has never slept.
For nearly four years, the Redmond couple has been fighting to prove to the state of Oregon that they are intellectually capable of raising their children. The Department of Human Services has removed both of their boys, saying the parents are too mentally limited to be good parents.
Fabbrini, 31, and Ziegler, 38, lost custody of their older son, Christopher, shortly after he was born. Five months ago, the state took their second child, newborn Hunter, directly from the hospital. Both are now in foster care.
"I love kids, I was raised around kids, my mom was a preschool teacher for 20-plus years, and so I've always been around kids," Fabbrini said. "That's my passion. I love to do things with kids, and that's what I want to do in the future, something that has to do with kids."
No abuse or neglect has been found, but each parent has a degree of limited cognitive abilities. Rather than build a network of support around them, the state child welfare agency has moved to terminate the couple's parental rights and make the boys available for adoption.

Are they taking decent care of the kids, or aren’t they?
The mother’s statement sounded coherent to me, not like the statement of someone who is mentally handicapped to the point where they cannot function.
I am really beginning to hate this state
The woman has a 72 IQ?
That’s the median in Detroit and most of Africa (NOT joking: https://www.targetmap.com/viewer.aspx?reportId=2812 ).
Or the average Somalian cop in Minneapolis.
They’re completely functional with some assistance. Sounds like the old man is still bitter about ending up with a special needs daughter and beats on the State to screw with his kid.
They got no business taking their kids. I saw far worse in California hospitals where they handed over babies to lesbian couples: it’s OK to confiscate children and give them to deranged people? These people are just disabled.
To be fair, I didn’t know she was pregnant either...

>>Do you even know what eugenics is?
Apparently not.<<
Instead of killing this couple they are just sterilizing them in fact if not medically.
I know exactly what I meant. Sorry it was too subtle for you.
Pointing out the obvious to some folks is like casting pearls to swine sometimes.
So you change the meaning of words. Ok.
Sounds horrible.
Infants are yes usually adopted, though.
In this case I think the grandparents are too old, or think they can’t raise the baby.
It didn’t mention if they have siblings.
All your kids belong us.
Listen yob, not every couple who adopts fits your sick thoughts
Not all foster care is awful. Adoptive parents do not always come from the foster system.
You can read all the reports you want. I know adoptive parents. Some fostered their children while waiting for parental rights to be terminated.
You paint with too broad a brush
By this standard, half the babies in Sub Saharan Africa should be removed.
You are using the same invalid, irrelevant response so often employed by others:
Bob: We have a problem with Islamic terrorism.
Joe: Not all Muslims are terrorists!
Seriously?? The parents are a loving couple, they are physically capable, are together, aren’t drug addicts, and the house appears clean and uncluttered.
Those are all better conditions than probably 50% of the children in the urban public schools where I live.
>>So you change the meaning of words. Ok.<<
It is called an “analogy” (note the use of “damn near”). I know how you have difficulty with complex and/or subtle concepts so here is a link (a link is a thing you click on which will then open an internet page) to the definition: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/analogy
The people doing this have addresses.
Just saying.

“The Department of Human Services has removed both of their boys, saying the parents are too mentally limited to be good parents.”
Yet, CPS\govt will continue to allow brood mares to fornicate and procreate, to taxpayer detriment, live in squalor\poor education\poor neighborhoods\lack of nuclear family....
Some animals are more equal.
