Idiotic. It’s a certainty he will die in a fall. I admire the skill it took to do it, but its a certainty that a rock people have grabbed for decades will break.
Agreed!
Highly skilled idiot.
If you want to risk your life - don’t do it for an adrenalin rush - do it trying to help the world.
I have nothing but disdain for this climb.
Makes my hands sweat just watching that short clip.
Me too. My feet tingle and feel like they’re slipping on ice when I watch this stuff.
I can visualize it being possible. If you can truly “spock out” and truly become totally dispassionate no matter what happens with the proper knowledge, experience, and physical fitness. Probably 99.9% of problems occur during a moment of indecision caused by panic. If you really think about it, most rock climbers never actually need their protective equipment to actually arrest their fall.

I can’t stand on a step stool without hanging on to something.
Getting down the way you got up is the ultimate challenge!
Ask any cat. So...how’d he get down??
Climbing down can be more difficult than climbing up. Repelling is the normal way down a cliff, but he took the hike down the backside of El Capitan.
“That said, I doubt he’ll live to 50.”
So true. Many of his friends mentioned in the article perished doing their thing. Indeed, enough did to make it clearly more dangerous than being a very active, active duty SEAL.

If that gives you a thrill, watch the documentary “Meru”. Chin was on that one too. These guys are truly driven!!
